Any ideas???? Car behaving strangely

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

In the past couple of days I have had a couple of episodes where I have thought Uh Oh whats gonna happen next.

When setting off a couple of times I have had a total loss of power as if I have stalled the car, I have stuck the clutch back in and the revs hav returned to idle. Best way to describe it is if the engine has stalled.

The first time that it happened I had a full car, me, missus, 3 x kids and a boot full of crates of pop (probably excess of 100kg, the car looked mean at the back well low) and I put it down to me not dialing in enough power to compensate for the additional weight, car didn't actually stall and pulled of second time round with no problem.

The second time it was just me in the car and I was at the lights next to a Porsche Boxter. I appreciate that he was going to beat me from the lights but I do find it very amusing to see the look on their faces when they realise that they cannot shake you off and that you are only ever a fraction behind them. Sorry I digress, same thing happens again car stalls, Boxter is away, revs return to normal, and I pull off trying to look as if I meant to do it. :irked: :irked:

It may be that it is just me, but I am pretty sure that it's not. I have one thought about a week before this I nearly ran out of fuel. I mean I had driven for about 10-15 miles with the trip reading 0 miles. So I am wondering if I have pulled any cr@p through and maybe blocked the filter. Could this lead to me planting it car not getting enough fuel and engine dying??????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. any idea where the fuel filter is? how much are they? and are they easy to change?

Fuel filter is just past the drivers side rear wheel on the underside. I couldnt get mine off when I tried but I think its just a case of squeezing the connector and pulling the fuel lines from the filter. Also check what direction the flow is when refitting a new one.

I always woundered how far mine would go on 0 fuel remaining...but didn't want to try it.

I know that fuel pumps don't like being run out of petrol(my mates orion pump was f00ked after). If you still had fuel in yours there shouldn't be a prob though.
