04 Octavia RS factory alarm problem

Featured Replies

This morning I drove 30 minutes to work as usual. I parked in the same spot at 8.30am as I always have for the last 6 years. 10 minutes after going into the office, I heard a car alarm go off - it was mine. I went out to the car, opened it and re-locked it, and a couple of minutes later, it happened again. In total, it happened 6 times in the space of 30 minutes. I rang my local dealer to see if he had any ideas, and he said he would need to put it on the diagnostic tool to see if there were any fault codes logged. When I got home this evening, I plugged in the laptop and ran an autoscan with Vag Com, and no faults were logged. I eventually locked the car using the key, and it didn't go off again.

That was until 9.45pm tonight. The alarm went off again for no apparent reason. I have locked the car via the key again, and at the time of writing this, so far it has not gone off again.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but in December last year, the central convenience control module and wiring loom if the drivers door were replaced, due to water ingress corroding the connections.

Has anyone any experience of such alarm behaviour, and if so, advise me on how the problem was resolved?

AM I right in thinking that by locking the car with the key, the interior monitoring is disengaged, with just the doors, tailgate, and bonnet sensors active?

If so, this would seem to point towards the interior monitor being the problem. If this was the case, should a fault code be logged?

Update: At 8.45am this morning, (same time as yesterday), the alarm started going off again, so my theory of it being the interior monitor seems to have been blown out of the water.

Anyone??

I'm sure someone with the knowledge will advise soon.

Makes me wounder if me not having an alarm as standard is a blessing or not.

Good luck.

Cheers mate..... I'm a bit worried as I have left my car unlocked all evening so far. I'm beginning to think my car was built on a Monday morning or a Friday evening. So far I have had to repair the following:

window regulators x 2

central convenience unit & wiring loom

radiator mounts replaced

arb & bushes replaced

exhaust centre mount repaired

steering column replaced (warranty)

climate V71 flap faulty

all in the last 14 months!

Gulp:thumbdwn:

I'm not sure about the locking with key disabling the interior monitoring, but you can certainly disable it with vag-com which would help you rule it out.

Possibly a daft idea, but the interior sensor in my Octy is located behind the ash tray/climate panel. I wonder if you could have a spider living near yours?!

Interesting thought.....I must investigate that. It has been behaving itself since yesterday, and wasn't moved all day today.

Maybe the little critter has moved along to a better location - moved up the property ladder so to speak.

Thanks for the idea Phil.

did you ever suss this out Mr healy?

i work with commercial building alarms and its surprising how many false alarms are caused by spiders and flys etc

:iagree: - that and installers using the cheapest PIR sensors, which get set off by clouds on a sunny day.

I reckon the insect theory was the problem. The alarm has not gone off since.

My car hasn't had a good clean out in months, and my wife has been using it as a mobile florist van in the last few months.
