Climate Control fan speed.

Featured Replies

Guys

Quick question, ive got climate control in my 02 vrs, and every time i adjust the temperature the fan speed goes up or down depending on what temp i select.

I like having my fan speed set at 3, and it really gets on my nerves when it changes. Can VAG-COM set the fan speed to manual? or is there another way to adjust the temp without the fan speed changing?

Cheers

Gav

With climate control its best to set the temp at 20,21deg, whatever suits you and leave it on auto. Then you do no not have to keep changing the temp.

The only way I know of keeping the fan speed at a constant speed is to adjust the temp as desired, and after it starts to speed up the fan, adjust the fan speed manually. It then tends to stay at that speed.

Could be wrong here but if you have it on auto all the time does that mean that the air con is on constantly and using more fuel?

I tend to have it on econ all the time unless I want it icy cold .

Its not really "on" all the time..the compressor will cut in if the car needs cooled, can't say ive noticed using more fuel constantly get 35+mpg

I thought the compressor was running all the time on Auto. I leave it running all the time because it's better for the compressor (keeps its lubricated) and keeps the air drier so the windows don't steam up. The guy who re-gassed my aircon for me said running the compressor "costs" about 7bhp, but that it should be run at least once a week for a few minutes.

My understanding of the climate control is that it sets the air temperature to what you select, then runs the fan faster if the cabin is at a different temperature. Once the cabin reaches the desired temperature, the fan slows down.

I thought that, if you over-rode the fan speed using the up/down controls, the fan speed stayed put until you pressed Auto again.

On the other points. Climatronic is an air-blending system, and mixes hot and cold air all the time, unless you put it into "econ" mode, which does disable the compressor (using the clutch).

I always keep it on 'econ' mode as i dont like to use the air con unless its really hot, which is rarely in this country. :P

Still, i wouldnt mind the fan speed altering if it was quiet, but it gets noisey at 4 and over, 1 and 2 are not fast enough so it has to be speed 3.

Can you get to the fans to make them quieter without much hassle?

Also, the temp is normally 24 at first when its cold, then 20/21 once ive warmed up, but even on 'econ' mode, the fan speed alters alot to keep it to that temp, so im always adjusting it, and given its position its a pain!!!

Isnt 'auto' is supposed to do that, ie: adjust the temp / fans to keep to that temp?
