Removing sticky rubber residue from wheel balance weights?

Featured Replies

Just got 4 new tyres hence the wheels have been re-balanced therefore I have the sticky rubber residue from the old weights.

Other than scraping it off with my finger nail what's the technique for getting it off? White spirit?

claybar?

Fly spray or WD40 should do it.

Spray on and leave for about a couple of minutes to allow the stickiness to break down and then wipe away. Might have to repeat this a couple of times.

Other than that you can buy "Sticky Stuff" remover from Betterware/Kleeneze sellers.

I use a citrus degreaser, but tar and bug remover would also do the job. Other than that anything with petrol distillates in it - WD40, white spirit, nail varnish remover etc.

Steve

Zippo lighter fuel!! I have used it for years to remove sticky stuff. Even works on plastics and doesnt discolour or leave a white residue.

Autoglym intensive tar remover.

Dab some on with a small sponge, leave for a couple of mins, then wipe the sticky stuff away.
