I was driving briskly up the M2 in my Octy vRS when I was soundly beaten by a Mini Copper S. Any one know what the performance figure is for these cars and what type of engine they have?

Not enough out of the factory, unless it's been to a tuner, then it's about 210 220?, weights about the same I thought; but sticks to corners like wet peat to a spade.

I just managed to keep up with one round a track, mind he was on cut slicks and I was on superchips and road tyres....will be far fairer next time

Too many variables on the road; the mental barriers and willing to push that bit further will always mean wild road results...leave it for track...right who's up for a track session...it's so much more relaxing than road driving.

William, is your vRS a stock model? If it is, then yes the Cooper S will beat it (0-100 difference is in the region of 2.5 seconds quicker). If you are chipped, he shouldnt have beat you, even a Works would struggle against a chipped Oct vRS.

I dont think it can have been standard - I had a friend who used to have one (std) - I never drove it but from the passengar seat felt no were near as quick as my octavia vRS - he's now just bought Cupra R & is really impressed with it

stock figures for the cooper s is something like 165bhp... 1.6 16v supercharged lump.

i'd have thought the mini would be lighter than the octy and this may have given him the edge you witnessed.

there is a 200bhp works model and alot of tuners tweek them to over 200bhp now so this could have also been a factor.

Octy's kerbweight is about 1375kg, while the MINI is 1215kg, so not a lot in it really. Though the MINI driver probably has a lighter wallet...

Had a play with one about 10 days ago was all over it untill the stuipid tw4t decided to bang his brakes on at 80mph. One thing I can confirm is the octavia vrs's brakes are better (thank god). It did go round corners with less roll than mine though so now I can hear Billy credit card saying coilovers to me
