On a 2002 (facelifted) 90bhp TDI, chassis number ending 322598352, does the tensioner need to be changed with the belt or not? I understand that, for cars after a certain chassis number, the tensioner is redesigned and does not have to be changed. There is a difference of around £100 in the parts and labour charge.

Dont see why, the tensioner is about £40 and no more work if you change it.

I think its silly not to tbh.
