Fitting an MFD2.

Featured Replies

**READ STU'S INSTALL GUIDE FROM HIS SITE!**

After purchasing the aforementioned piece of equipment I set about fitting it to my car... easy as pie I say to myself.

Stu's guide was faultless... and as a result the said SatNav is working fine :)

However, due to tragic and unforeseen circumstances; namely a prat with heavy hands, the earth cable for my CD Changer in the back of the stereo was tore away from the connecting pin

I'm taking her into Skoda tomorrow to be fixed... slightly worried that they're going to charge me an arm and a leg to sort out a simple cable :(

Anybody have any ideas of how much I'm looking at... it's only a simple connector after all :(

Hours labour plus a couple of quid for parts I expect. Simple enough to do yourself to be honest.

You'll have to hope they have that size cable in the VAS kit else you'll be having to wait for it and go back again.

Shall we call you Robbo Sausage Fingers from now on then??

Is there any way to avoid being called sausage fingers? :o

I thought I'd get them to sort the coding for fitting the unit, plus take the markers off for the servicing AND fix my rattling passenger underseat compartment before I smash the damn thing off with my foot

I'll let you know the damage when I return/recover from Alex Lawrie tomorrow.

Mr Fluffmeister esq. resides in your neck of the woods and not only has the necessary equipment to do the coding for you but is also a veteran MFD2 installer.

Might be worth a PM if you're stuck.

Information noted :)

However, if Skoda do fix this thing... will they not code the system by default anyway when they refit it?

Not necassarily unless you ask them.

Remember they only get paid for the jobs on the sheet - Extra's are well, extra.

Well I'm back... £83 missing from pocket but the car is now sorted... and they even coded my unit for me :)

One thing has to be said for Skoda; the dealers are really helpful

Not too bad then. It's about an hours labour and some cables I expect.

Interestingly enough, the very same cable - CD Changer earth gave me the same problems when fitting the MFD2!!

The pin got stuck in the block. The others come out no problem, and no matter how much prodding and poking I did it just seemed jammed. I eventually used force....and broke the thing!

Had to take a stanley knife to the connector to remove the broken bit of the pin, then got the soldering iron out. Makeshift repair on the connector pin seems to have held okay.

Done a few of these myself and the secret is that if it gets stuck push it back in.

You need the press the locking barb down to slide it out and then press the locking barb in again to get it past the last part of the connecter.

Must have been Alex Lawrie then?

As Stu says, if you ever need anything coding etc, give me a shout Robbo, I'm only in Warrington

Hi,

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but does anyone know where I can get an MFD2 fitted ? I have 2 left hands when it comes to things like this and as great as the instructions i found on here are, i don't have the bottle to have a go myself? I've tried skoda (who laughed and said no) and also a couple of ICE specialists who weren't interested unless they could sell me an after market unit. I'm happy to pay a good price for a good job.

Anywhere in or around London...all recommendation gratefully rec'd!

cheers

Matt

Have you sourced the unit already?

not yet - I wanted to find a way to get it into the car before doing so. I have been in touch with a couple of people on Ebay who can get one to me though...(unless you were asking the question because you have a spare you'd like to sell !!)

cheers

Too late... ;)

I bought it! :D

D'oh...

No I wasn't but I was going to offer to install it for you though.

If you read the guide on my Octavia website there are a couple of recomended sellers listed who may be able to help.

Stu, that would be fantastic... :)

When you get one sorted out drop me a PM and I'll give you my address.
