MOM2005 storage monitoring..

Featured Replies

Wonder if someone a bit more clued up on MOM can maybe clear this up for me...

I know one of the things MOM does on the hour is run the storage state monitoring script, which will flag up if any drives are below a pre-determined threshold..

but my questions is this:

A) does it record all the values regardless if they are within threshold or not?

B) is there some way to get a report on disc space, either for a particular server over time, or an overview of every drive on every monitored server... there doesnt seem to be a report in the MOM reporter that can do this.. and for some reason when i try to do a performance graph for disc space from the operations console (eg from the exchange management pack) it only shows the last 4 hours?

the reason im asking is our operational shift report (which is still very old fasioned.. im trying to change this) relys on alot of manual work including alot of annoying disk space checks.. which is done by RDP and an excel spreadsheet..

apparently we are also going to be getting involved in capacity planning, which will mean more checks and being able to trend data..

at the previous company i scheduled a small script to email back on disk space, but i really cba with the mountains of paperwork involved in implimenting something similar here..

and one final question:

IS SCOM2007 any better/more suited for the job?

at the moment our MOM setup has been ripped to bits, its barely fit for purpose.. bossman is looking at getting a third party company in to re-build it, but we are seeing if we can get them to go for SCOM instead.. being that SCOM is the more service-delivery centered product, we are looking for benifits that would help us on a day to day basis.

is anyone using SCOM? what do they think of it compared to MOM?

It might be worth looking at Solarwinds for network management as another option
