New vRS Issues

Featured Replies

Picked up my new vRS last Monday so had it just over a week now. Just completed a round trip to Hatfield with the Speedo just reading over 500 Miles.

Anyway I have noticed three issues with my new vRS

1. The front end seems specifically high. As in the gap between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch. On the rear wheel I can get 2.5 nearly 3 fingers in the gap, but on the front I can get my whole hand and thumb in. Just measured the gaps. Rear - 2.5" Front - 4". I checked with an identical model vRS in our Car Park today and that had equal gaps front and rear.

2. Noticed excessive wind noise from the rear quarter lights, same as I had on my old Octy 2.0 TDi which resulted in the rear quarter lights being replaced. Thought Skoda would of fixed this on current models.

3. The Drivers side door mirror when adjusted fully outwards and will go no further, shows half the behind view and the rear passenger door backwards on the Car.

Anyone came across similar issues? Have an appointment at the Dealers in the morning, but they say the front suspension can't be adjusted. Was wondering if it could of been built wrong? The steering is very sensitive with no free play in the wheel every little movement turns the car and the Steering does feel light. Have checked the tyre pressures are correct.

No problems with the wind noise or mirror on my May built vrs petrol.

And funnily enough I was looking at it today thinking that the 18's fill the arches well.

Sure there is a gap, but it is even and not too bad. (Thats with a fair amount of weight in the boot too)

Sounds suspiciously like somebody has left the suspension packing material in the front suspension, or the car has been built wrong.

edit. Just re read and realised it is going into the dealers.

Have a look at some of the s/hand cars and see how they sit.

The suspension packing material, are they big rubber like bushes that clip over each ring of the suspension springs? As I have three on each side of my Octy stopping the springs moving.

Yep that sounds like them.

Should be removed at PDi.

FFS how did they manage to miss them, thought the suspension at the front was a bit hard and would explain the steering being very light and sensitive. Cars done 511 miles with them on mainly motorway driving as well. Could it of done any damage having them on, can see properly now as it's too dark.

Obviously rushed the car out without proper PDI - I should rip into them somewhat.

Begs the question what else have they missed :thumbdwn:

Could have been downright dangerous.

I don't imagine that it would have resulted in any damage to the car but I wouldn't think they were ever designed with motorway speeds in mind so it's lucky you've not had an accident.

May well be worth calling out the Skoda Assist to sort you out - certainly a good way of raising the profile of the situation.

I had the same issue with a new Audi I had a few years ago. Went back three times because the suspension was so rock hard and each time they said nothing wrong, then they found the packing had been left in. I had done about 2000 miles IIRC. This, along with other issues were my main fight for a replacement car. I got the replacement but that had different issues soI got rid soonest and that's why I will never buy an Audi but that's another story!

Cheers Stu, just called Skoda Assist and they are on their way. Explained what it was and the Operator said they would be able to remove them. He knew exactly what I was going on about so seems like something they have done many times before.

Think I get him to give it the once over in case they missed anything else.

Xenon alignment/basic setting is another possible.

I would get in touch with the garage and ask to see the PDi check form - There will be one. When they've produced it then lay your cards on the table and ask them to complete the PDi again as you cannot be sure it has been completed properly. Perhaps see if you can get the blocks and a little report from Skoda Assist.

 How on earth did they miss that! I was upset enough over the fact they'd not checked the tyre pressures and all the tyres were 45psi, I'd be livid about that, sounds dangerous! check the tyre pressures aswell.

check the tyre pressures aswell.

He did.

But borders on criminal negligence IMO :thumbdwn:

Mr RAC man has been and removed the Blocks, I still have them or my bin does so I have the evidence. Took the Car for a quick blast round the block and it's a different car again handles much better seems a lot surer on the road.

As for Tyre Pressures mine were all at 45PSI was the first thing I checked on getting it home from the Dealers.

A visit to the Dealers is still planned for tomorrow at 10:00 but think I'll be seeing the main man and ask to see the PDI Checklist.

RAC Man gave the Car the quick once over, having a quick look at the mirror and suggested it may well be a left hand drive mirror that has been fitted in error at the Factory.

Just the wind noise to sort out now.

Final point for info had the Parrot Car Kit fitted today and was going to have the Denison iPOD Kit fitted as well but for some reason the iPOD kit would not work with the new iPOD Classic The iPOD Video slightly older Series worked fine but not the new Classic. Where by it worked by playing Tracks from the iPOD and the display on the iPOD displayed the Denison info correctly none of the controls would work to step through the Playlists or skip tracks on the Stream MP3 Header Unit

Steve (?)

Quite seriously I would ******* the suppliers up and down and sideways. This was a totally unforgiveable omission on someone's part that could have led to a truly serious accident.

I'd report them to Skoda.

Just glad that nothing really serious occurred .

theres been a new firmware for the ipods released in the last few days which fixes some issues with 3rd party hardware and the docking port. as the dension uses the docking port it may be worth a try with the new firmware?

Totally agree; try and get something out of them in 'compensation'; free service or some accessories?

On the iPOD I have version 1.0.2 Firmware the latest available but still has the issue.

As in to getting some compensation, don't know what they can do I already get 3 Years Free Servicing and Cars well Spec'd up. Can't think of anything I want or know of anything else. The only thing if I really think about it would be Cruise Control, but they ain't going to do that and I hardly used it on my old Elegance.

Ask for a Net system for the boot. Don't know how I have survived these past years of motoring without a net system in the boot....

I already have the Net System and the second Bag hanger in the Boot inherited them from my old Elegance ;)

Anyway back from Dealers went through PDI job sheet and everything was ticked as completed to include the Tyre Pressures. The Blocks weren't actually listed on the job sheet.

Spoke with Gary the owner who to be fair is very good, not a lot he could say really held his hands up and will be having serious words with the guy who completed the PDI. He has agreed to valet the Car with SupaGuard when it goes in for its 12 month Service.

Managed to fix the mirror as well needed a bit of force to clip back in properly and the wind noise is something he has heard reports of on the new models but not had a bulletin from Skoda about.

Decent offer but why not get the SuperGuard done NOW? - to protect the paintwork NOW.

Sorry should of said it's already SupaGuarded.
