The global strategic partnership between Škoda Auto and Shell is going to open a new chapter in the years to come. The companies have reached a new agreement that involves a number of joint projects in various areas, including oil and lubricants, marketing and motorsport. The agreement was crowned by a visit by Shell International Vice President David Pirret and his colleagues from the top management to Škoda Auto's plant in Mladá Boleslav.

Škoda Auto BOD Chairman Detlef Wittig says: “Our cooperation has been underway since 2003, and both sides believe that this alliance of two global brands offers a potential for many other new projects that will bring benefits to our customers at all levels, i.e., importers, dealers as well as owners of Škoda vehicles. This partnership combines quality, dynamics and orientation to future on both sides. Škoda brand is currently present in 100 countries and continues expanding, both in terms of new continents and new models. The long term cooperation provides an excellent platform for the entire distribution network and for the outstanding products.“

David Pirret, Executive Vice President, Shell International, says: “Škoda Auto belongs to one of the most successful European car brands and we are pleased to have been their partner already for a number of years. As the largest global marketer of lubricants and a leading company in fuel development we work hard to ensure that our strategic partnership is valuable for all Škoda car owners and company partners. We look forward to developing existing opportunities as well as finding new horizons.”

Doesn't this just mean that Skoda (possibly VAG total) have negotiated a supply deal for a certain time period to supply lubricants etc.

These deals come up in rotation and the car company will leverage competition between the companies (sometimes dependent just on the near term requirements of the supplier)

Have you noticed how some months/years a car company will supply Continental, then Michelin possibly even Pirelli's. It just shows that to all intents and purposes they all do the same thing and are all the same quality of product.
