Today i have been cleaning inside the engine bay and decided to take off the plastic cover with the vrs badge on to have a cleanup. I have discovered a black hose which leads from the (rocker cover) i think its what its called, the bit which has the oil fill stopper screwed into. Anyway the pipe is split where it comes out the right side of the engine cover. This same pipe then goes into a y shape and leads off elsewhere. Should i get this replaced ASAP and will it effect the running of the vehicle, as so far all seems ok. Sorry to be vague but all i do is get in and drive and clean it my knowledge is very limited. If someone could help it would be much appreciated. My vehicle is a octavia vrs on a 01 plate.

I think this is an oil breather pipe, so its worth getting swapped, but it shouldnt cause running issues.

Pretty sure it's a breather pipe. The main reason for changing it would be to stop dirt ingress, rather than because it will bother an EMS if it's not there.

Definately sounds like the oil breather pipe. I've just had mine replaced, car doesn't really feel any different, but I don't drive around with a constant headache from the fumes wafting into the cabin any more!
