Brake Fluid Change

Featured Replies

I m planning to change the brake fluid on the Fabia. Well ask the garage too of course :D

Is it hard - Does it take long? Is it dangerous if not done right - How can I make sure its done right?

Thank

It's a simple job of bleeding the brakes with the first in the prescribed order, taking the brake fluid reservoir to min level, topping up to max with fresh good quality fluid of the correct type. This should be done until new fluid is seen to come from the bleed valve (old fluid is usually darker) and repeating the process for the other wheels in the correct order making sure no air remains in the pipes and that the brake fluid level in the tank does not go below min. Bleed screws all tightened up and ready to go :)

It shouldn't take too long (for a trained mechanic with appropriate facilities probably no longer than 30mins), so long as the brake fluid reservoir does not go below the min level (will take longer to get rid of the air in the system).

If not done right (air in the system) the brakes may feel spongey and the braking inefficient, which is not dangerous but just means they need bleeding.

Yep about 30mins, dealers will use a pressure bleeder which is connected to a substantial supply of fluid so wont run out and get air in.

Definately worth having it done by someone who knows what they are doing.

Just had mine done and I can tell that the brakes feel much better and the clutch does not judder when I set off like it used to.

Worth every penny of the £45 charged by the dealer.
