Experiences with www.vagparts.co.uk?

Featured Replies

Well, when I had my MK2 Golf project, and likewise with my 6N Polo project, I used www.vagparts.co.uk for all of the bits, mainly because they couldn't be beaten on price for genuine parts. My experience with pattern parts from GSF has been somewhat hit and miss, hence my preference for genuine. VAG Parts have always been quick to deal with my requests, and have processed many orders for lots of little bits at a few pence each, which can't be profitable for them, so they have always been a  from me.

However, as Patsy smashed her sump, I've got a list as long as your arms for parts, including part numbers for all of them (to make their life easier), and the total at dealer price with 10% discount from my local dealer is £851 , so its not a few pence we're talking about here.

I sent VAG parts a fax a week last Friday. I didn't email them as the list I had was hand written. However, I rang them on Monday just politely asking whether or not they had received my fax, and the answer was yes, we'll look at it when we get time, we are very busy at the moment. I made it clear that I was in a bit of a rush as the car was undrivable, but was met with, and I quote "Just because you sent us a fax, doesn't mean you get served any quicker". No need for that.

Ho hum.

One week on, I've still not heard from them. Trying to call them this morning has just been met with an engaged tone. :(

What would you do? Where else can I get genuine parts at heavily discounted prices??

TBH for a sump, it is just a big bit of metal, I would probably go for the GSF one if you are in a hurry, or perhaps one from a breakers yard.

What other parts are you cahasing up

I've not bought anything from them, but i did enquire about some parts via email.

IIRC, it took about a week to reply.

The thing is most places only sell the one for cars on fixed servicing only i.e. they don't have the hole in for the oil temp sender. :(

Need a radator (tempted to go pattern via motorfactors), cambelt (seller on eBAY doing genuine kits for £70), water pump, EGR valve (probably go second hand), then just shed loads of seals, gaskets nuts and bolts - which tbh I could just get at the dealers.

Also wanted a heated seat mat which is a dealer only part really, and an engine under tray - which VAG Parts previously quoted me under half the dealer price...

I just wish they'd get back to me so I can spend my money with them!!! It shouldn't be that difficult!

Oops, just got of the phone to them, the fax was sent last week, looks like someone pinched it off the machine.

Should be with me in the next few minutes!!!

These any good as a backup ?

VW Parts - Audi Parts

Thanks for that. Seems the parts aren't genuine though, and on the whole not that cheap. Useful though indeed! Some of the service items look very competetively priced, considering they are apparantly OE quality!

Slow to respond and often not all that helpful has been my experience.

Even when, like Tom, you've supplied a part number and are just querying price and availability.

Still no fax... :(

Well, still no fax, and just an engaged tone all afternoon. What a pita.

Damn annoying when you're willing to hand over your hard earned. Not like they're having to push to make a sale either.

Grrrr....

Tell me about it.

Ordered the radiator from my local Wilko now, all the little bits have been ordered from my local Skoda specialist, cambelt is ordered from Silverwagon on eBAY, so its just a sump and the engine undertrays left now... will try and wait for VAG parts as I think they will be cheapest by far, just sooooo frustrating.

Sent them an email chasing it up last night, will call them a bit later too.

Just rang and spoke to a different guy. "Just found the fax, will take me a little while to get some prices together but I'll ping them across in an email sometime later today".

So we've gone from just re-sending a fax to having to go get prices. Great. :thumbdwn:

Why not sit on the phone with them as a new customer without mentioning the Fax and get the prices there and then.

id have forked them off by now TBH.

I can understand people being very very busy but really how long would it take for someone to call/fax you to say that they have received the fax and that they would be in touch asap with a confirmed list of prices and avaliablity?

The list is about 30 different parts.

They prefer to do business by email, but I only had a handwritten list.

TBH the best way to deal with them is by email, preferably an excel sheet and they simply add the prices and send it back.

Just hate the lack of urgency. :(

Any progress Tom ?

Yep, they got back to me on Wednesday.

I'm pretty disappointed with the speed of things, and the discount doesn't seem as good as it once was. Still, I've confirmed about £120 of parts from them today, just waiting for them to set up the order. If the bits aren't with me so I can fix the car next Saturday I'll be really disappointed...

Ash has been really helpful on the phone.

I think its a classic example of too successful for your own good. :(
