Headlight bulb change how to.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Ive tried searcing but cannot find a bulb change howto for the octy mark 1, non xenon. Ive found a howto for every other skoda model though!

Ive ordered 2 pairs of the h4 philips xtrmem +80% ones to replace the dire standard bulbs, should be here tomorrow, also got some free bluevision sidelights, are these anygood.

Was going to get the slightly cheaper osram +90% but couldnt find any info about them being safe for plastic lenses so plumped for the recommended philips ones.

I will take some before after pics too as I drive to work @ 5am

Cheers

To access the bulbs on my 53 plate octy vrs, a rectangular black plastic cover on the back of each headlight needs to be removed.

The cover is held in place by a single wire securing clip.

The O/S headlight is OK to do, but the N/S is awkward because of the battery.

Possibly just as easy to pop the headlight out and do on a bench. Its only held in by 4 bolts (one is behind the indicator).

If you do remove the headlight, be sure to protect the paintwork on the bumper with some masking tape first.

Also try to avoid turning the headlight upside down ( ie; glass side down) otherwise you may find you get pieces of debris trapped between the reflector and glass.

Hope this helps

Cheers Bill, Id heard it was easy but Ive a habit of messing things up, will see how to goes when the bulbs arrive

Its a piece of cake to do, just make sure you don't touch the bulbs with your fingers.

As for the bulbs themselves... I was a bit disappointed, they didn't seem any better than the Philips Vision Plus +50% bulbs that I've used in the past, despite being £10 a set more expensive :(
