Coolant leak on VRS TDI

Featured Replies

Anyone else experienced an engine coolant leak on a VRS TDI.

I was cruising at just shy of 100mph (empty French motorway) for about 2 hours when the light came on but - my old 130TDI could do this all day.

I've had to top it up a couple of times but it's been standing for 4 days without further incident.

Is this me boiling the coolant? Should it do this under these running conditions? If so - what kind of a performance model is it?? a fake one...

As you can probably tell I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned by my vrs.

If there is no visible leaks, your car might have a faulty EGR cooler.. This could let some coolant get in to the inlet manifold together with the "recycled" exhaust. Just a wild guess of course.

Hope you get it sorted!

My tdi Vrs blew off the bottom hose from the expansion bottle. The clip was too far along the hose to be of any use. I heard it happened to a work colleagues mates VRs too!

It might be worth having a poke in there but it is hard to see.

I've been topping my wifes car up for a couple of months only to discover when I took the car out for a drive and checked the radiator it was stone cold. The thermostat had failed but the temperature guage never went further than the middle where it usually is hence no warning! Do check your radiator and fans are working.

My PD140 has had a slow coolant leak for about 2 years now along with a cold starting problem. It is finally being investigated for a porous cylinder head now.

Another option is a cracked radiator as there were some that were badly built and so caused the coolant to leak then be fine then leak then be fine as the thing heated up and cooled.

I did a little search and this was the most recent thread on Octavia II radiator leaks ...

So I'm guessing that they're not too much of a problem usually.

2005 TDI PD140 115,000 miles

I noticed some pink coolant had dripped whilst parked outside my mum's on Wednesday

and again just a small puddle overnight to Thursday morning at home.

It was in the local dealer yesterday for an unrelated matter (new wheel bearing),

they pressure tested the radiator and confirmed that

"there's slight seepage from both end caps".

I'll be keeping an eye on the level and taking some water with me,

as I'm driving to Germany on Monday.

Has anyone had any experience of having repairs done on modern style radiators?

Or is it just a case of replace (dealer quoted £270 all inclusive) if it starts to get worse?

cheers ... Darren

Well, a bit of an update ...

Checked the coolant level, in Yorkshire, in the Channel Tunnel car park, in Belgium & in Germany.

It's not changed & it's not left a puddle anywhere either,

perhaps, the dealer had overfilled it on the recent service?

Although surely I'd have noticed that in the expansion tank previously?
