I have just bought a 1996 Felicia pickup an dam having problems starting it. I bought it on Saturday and it hasn't been on the road for about a year and when I went to view it the battery was flat. The owner jumped it off using his van and it started ok. I got the thing home and put the battery on charge over night and it started ok on Sunday numerous times. I came to start it on Monday night and it won't start.The problem seems to be that there's no spark from the coil. Has anyone had similar experiences? The feed to the coil dips to 9 volt when the engine is turning on the starter but this feed comes from the ECU.

It's the 1.3i overhead valve

does the fuel pump run when it's cranking?? if it does then you can discount an immobilizer problem..

it's normal for the voltage to drop when the starter motor is turning the engine over, but if you are getting no sparks at all i would suggest checking the hall sender which is mounted on the top of the gearbox bellhousing

Yes the fuel pump does run but it doesn't spark. I'll check the Hall sender that you suggested tonight. Thanks.

i had this problem, the engine was turning and the fuel pump was active but it wouldnt start, the problem was that my ecu was dead...so it could be that

Just a quick post to say thanks for the help. I got the pickup running tonight, removed the halls sensor as suggested and cleaned it refitted it and it started first time. Hopefully it will continue to!!

My 96 1.3 glxi died on me, no spark. I've been scanning these forums for hours for an answer and this may be it! Life was so much simpler with points & carbs.

try checking the hall sender on top of the gearbox bellhousing

no sensor on top of gearbox as mines a 1600 still no spark...left ign on for hour etc etc etc...still nothing.....still no spark

ive got the hump with this big style now...(its not a snapped cambelt!!)

who wants a p reg dark blue felly estate 1.6 SLXI with alloys pass & drivers airbag, central locking and elec front windows, mot til aug and tax till end of month???.as i said before, i used to run this every day til i got a mini cooper S...batt went flat now non start!! think of the parts you could get off it to upgrade your standard one!!
