Can anyone help????

Featured Replies

I've searched the Seat forums and they are rubbish compared to this site.

I am trying to remove the clutch pedal box on my mothers Seat Ibiza 1.4 mpi as its pretty much fubar. I cant find any diagrams or instructions on how to do this. They dont even make a Haynes manual for the car. I fear the steering column will need to removed but am unsure. Does anyone know or have experience of this. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I think that the steering column must be in him place

Look for screws/nuts over the pedal mechanism

I'm guessing that's the 'old' shape Ibiza? Unfortunately, I don't think it's anything like either the Fabia or the Felicia underneath, but I could be wrong...

Sorry! :(

Just in case it isn't, this is what you can expect to find if you remove the knee panel. Ignoring all the arrows, it appears that all the kit associated with the clutch pedal is well clear of the steering column:

I've removed all the box securing nuts and bolts but there is a C shaped attachment on the steering column preventing me from removing it. Its a W plate ibiza. The steering column upper mounting point seems to have been installed with sheer bolts that when torqued the heads snap off.

As I thought, a W-plater won't share the same platform as the Fabia, so apologies if I got your hopes up! Sounds like a tricky one to me - I'm not the best person on here for things like this, but the only things I can suggest are either putting the car on a ramp and seeing if you can get at it from the other side of the bulkhead, or (if you dare!) investigating whether you can drill out the bolts...

I've considered that but didnt really want to go down that route. I've got the tools to do it but im convinced there must be an easier way.

May be a long shot, but try the Polo forum(s) - UK-POLOS.NET : : UK POLO FORUM and Club Polo.

If it's a W-plate (2000) then it's likely to be similar to a 6N/6N2 Polo.

Pop over to Club Lupo. Pedal box failure is common on Lupo 16v Sport, and I reckon that will be like your Ibiza. I believe you do have to disconnect the steering column. I'm hoping ours doesn't fail.

Done loads, bit of a pain.

Yes the column does have to come out and yes you have to chisel the bolts out to drop it.
