Shareware VAGCOM, is it worth it?

Featured Replies

I know a lot of you on the board have a nice fully fledged version of the VAGCOM software but for us mere mortals who just want a look around every so often is the shareware version of the software any use at all or is it not worth spending the money on the connection for it? I only have an Octavia 1.8SLXI so I am not looking for boosting performance with it, would just be nice to see what else is possible with it so I cant really justify spending hundreds of pounds which I could be spending on something sensible :D (SWMBO might have something to say!)

Do any of you know a good cheap source for one of the connectors as well?

Thanks

Andy

You can download the shareware version and mess around with it on your pc to see what does and doesn't work. From memory you can read anything from the car but cannot change anything except for clearing fault codes. You will also need the special OBD cable. Stick with the serial cable as the usb is a bit flakey aparently.

If you look at the ross tech site there is a table that shows you what you get on the shareware and full versions

Also have a look at the sticky at the top of this forum for further info on what, where and how much.
