L & K Cam belt broken

Featured Replies

My L&K decided to chew a section of teeth out of the cam belt :(.I was at a standstill at the time so hoped that there wasnt much damage.I have fitted a new belt but it doesnt want to start.I thought there was a problem because as I rotated the crank to find TDC there didnt seem to be much compresion.Any ideas what damage is likely.Would a repair or new motor be the cheaper option ? The car is only my runabout for to and from work so I dont want to spend a fortune, but it would be a shame to scrap it,its too nice.Any help appreciated

did the belt brake?????

No belt didnt break it just stripped about two and half inches of the teeth so the crank spun without turning the belt

it would be a shame to scrap it,its too nice.Any help appreciated

ill have the seats:D

Sounds like bent valves then to me.

If theres sod all compression then bent valves for sure.

Maybe a recon head?

it will have gone all out of synke. so as lummox said "valveus bentus maximus"

jaymz you grave robber there mine!!!!!!!!!!!!

rowshamboo ya for them.

yeah sounds like bent valves to me too.

keep the car just get a new head.

also if compression doesnt get any better, then it could be time for new pistons rings, however thats highly unlikely given on your description of the cambelt wear.

i might have a spare cylinder head kicking around if you are interested

Thanks all for you replies.I will get the manual out to see if its a job I can do myself.TeflonTom I might take you up on that offer.Let me know if you have one,how much etc.Well looks like thats my Sunday sorted, lets get the head off for a look.

Recon head can be had for under £200 I'm sure.

Yes, its a doddle to do! If your handy with a spanner shouldn't take more than a long morning. :)
