Dragon Box & EGR

Featured Replies

Hey all I have had a search but couldn't find anything on this.

I have read on there that having a tuning box can damage the EGR valve due to the extra fuel going in?

Is it better to code it down using VAG COM? How is this done? And can it cause any damage? What does the EGR actually do? Is it something to do with stupid EURO emissions?

Haven't got a clue about the EGR valve :o but i ran a dragon box for 6 months on full power with no problems! :thumbup:

It can just plug it up with crap.

Basically;

EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders. Intermixing the incoming air with recirculated exhaust gas dilutes the mix with inert gas, lowering the adiabatic flame temperature and (in diesel engines) reducing the amount of excess oxygen. The exhaust gas also increases the specific heat capacity of the mix lowering the peak combustion temperature. Because NOx formation progresses much faster at high temperatures, EGR serves to limit the generation of NOx. NOx is primarily formed when a mix of nitrogen and oxygen is subjected to high temperatures.

You can turn it down but not off.

So is it better to turn it down then? Can this have any ill effects?

Yeah, it can bump up the combustion temp which can cause a few problems but with me theorising a bit here I would presume that the Dragon would lower it a bit anyway with more fuel so it may balance out.

I turned it down and it ran like a dog, but that might because I ran Bio and that burns hotter anyway and it took it outside the tolerences.

Ill be honest, I don't think I know anyone with a mildly tuned PD notice any advantage in turning it up or down.
