Abnormal temperature Mk1 vRS

Featured Replies

Hi there ,I seem to have this problem on my mk1 vrs the tempreture gauge is supposed to be at the halfway mark which is 90 when warmed up but, mine seems to be hovering around 100-110 lately. I've had it into two skoda dealers and they cant find anything wrong.I am a bit concerned as it has never done it before. It does it even when u are driving at a steady speed on the motor way,it seems to drop slightly when coming to stop start traffic .has anyone experienced this before?

Could be a water pump on the way out or a faulty temp sensor.

Good point, when was the waterpump last changed?

Sounds a bit like my octy only mine 'waved' at you also no probs with the actuall car had the temp sensor changed and its spot on now xxsadielouxx:P

The car has done around 68k and the water pump has not been replaced since new as I got the car from new.The other thing I wanted to point out is seems to be sluggish in 4th and 5th around 60mph if i boot it nothing happens it only slowly gains speed, its as though I need to gear down to overtake, like into 3rd.Im used to the power but it just feels kinda slow.

Sounds like a new waterpump/cambelt/tensioners are in order then.

Yeah i had a bmw that was like this, it was the waterpump, as liverpool lad said might aswell get the cambelt and tensioners done, not cheap tho!

Sound a bit like dirty throttle body. I would get her remapped just incase:rolleyes:

I Get mine next month:thumbup:

Water pump on the way out, I can almost guarantee it. Mileage is around the right level for a failure, going on forum knowledge, and the symptoms are spookily similar to my own:

Very odd that the Skoda dealers didn't come up with it. If it is the pump, the failure could be pretty serious, so get it sorted quick.

Yep, especially the temperature getting that hot could lead to bigger things like overheating and head gasket failure. Youre looking at about £300 from a main dealer for the lot and a bit less from an independent garage.

Not to mention warping the cylinder head.

Thanks guys .I made an appointment for Monday at my dealer,Im going to point out about the water pump and hope they find out whats causing these problems

Mines been doing a similar thing but the opposite way, it used to sit at 90 and never move until I had to tow someone home, now it drops down anywhere to 60 or 70 deg when doing 50+mph but when I stop in traffic or slow down it goes back to 90 again, is this normal as I thought it was supposed to sit at 90 unless there was a problem?

Cheers
