That 'old window dropping problem'!

Featured Replies

Hello, Is there any kind souls out there in Skoda land that can help me with this problem? From what I've heard, I think it's a common problem.

I have an old 'S' reg Octavia and have loved it ever since I bought it. The problem is that during one of the westest evenings a while ago one of my passenger windows dropped for no apparent reason! Result being, one car and one driver soaked to the skin! With the worry of stripping the door down and not knowing what to do next after not being able to see much at all (after various neck twisting yoga positions) I embarassingly gave up at the first hurdle! Result being that the first window was then wedged up by a piece of trusty timber! On closer inspection, I found out that all I needed was a plastic/nylon clip which clamped onto the window mechanism/electric motor. I have been to my local Skoda dealer who politely informed me that I could not buy this clip on it's own, for what I gather would be in the matter of pence, but would have to buy the complete assembly for £60 each (gulp)! What makes it worse is that now two more windows have collapsed!!! Would anyone be able to tell me where I can get these clips as my other thought was to buy a non-mot, non-taxed, complete car, just to get these clips!!!! I could probably get a whole car for the price of three window assemblies!!! Please help before they take me away to the funny farm!! I would really appreciate any contructive feedback. Many thanks Skoda fans!

You cant get them on thier own sadly, and chances are ones from a non txed non MOT'd car wouldnt last long.

Thanks, but it seems absolutely crazy in a country that is supposed to be more and more environmently freindly that I would have to chuck away 3 working mechanisms for the sake of 3 plastic clips. There must be someone out there who can rescue me!

Indeed, there is a repair kit for the VW Golf that has the same issue, sadly the parts are not interchangeable.
