Anyone have Dash Mount Pods or Steering Pods for Gauges

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Managed to find a steering pod for the superb dual type, however am looking for the dash top mount. Like those in the subarus Wrxes and the new golf with the dash mount pods..

Anyone got any pictures of their gauges and the place they place the item can post? I need more suggestions on where can i mount gauges on the superb.

Looking to mount Oil Pressure, Boost and lastly maybe Oil temp (Anyother suggestions?)

Also where can i get reasonable prices gauges? I will like to ship in some of them.

Suggesstions and advice will be greatly appreciated!

Why would anyone want extra dials for?

One of the kinder descriptions of the Superb is 'executive barge'. It is outstanding value for money, (second hand), with plenty of space and en excellent motorway cruiser.

Boy racer it aint.

If you want lots of dials, why not buy the Subaru?

Each to his (or her) own I suppose!

While I do agree with this comment it's clear that you can make a Superb look a little better than OEM with some tinkering....

I have read a few posts from limlien and I would be interested to see what his Superb looks like and what he has achieved so far.......

Got any pics limlien?

I went for function over form. I needed these gauges - All tell me things the car cannot. I wanted something that I could see out the corner of my eye without really taking my eyes off the road, which is why I went for this triple dashpod setup. I can point them right at me (I've twizzled the boost one now :D). I also have oil pressure mounted in a single pod on the other side of the steering wheel. Pod/s came off Ebay. Gauges came from

Boost Gauge: Allard

EGT gauge - VEI Systems in the States

SPA Temp gauge - SPA, in the UK.

The aesthetics of the car can be improved e.g. lowering the suspension, different or wider wheels.

The 'grunt' of the car can be improved by re-mapping.

What has been imprived by bolting (literally), a kaleidoscope to the top of the dash. Is it possible to drive at night without being distracted? I partricularly like the neat hole in the dash - must add 100s when it comes to resale time!

The picture makes my point - to each their own.

Jason doesnt have to worry about resale, he would never sell the beast .

A set of gauges if you must would be best placed in a din pod under/over the stereo I would think.

Hey buddy....I am not having a go at you.....

Clearly devontopia's mods may not be to everyone's tastes but like you say 'each to their own' but I assume that limlien is thinking of something a little more classy such as below:

NewSouth Performance

or even:

Awesome > A-Pillar Single Pod - Mk4 Golf etc

Something to keep in mind though, there can be a downside to having all sort of gauges, Information can sometimes be a bad thing. One of my best mates has a 200SX and he had a bevvy of gauges lined up along the dash etc. Hes disconnected half of them as he kept getting heart attacks everytime one of them moved a bit..lol

Well, the only think i have got to do so far is to just change the body moulding to the chrome one.

Like my previous few posting i have indicated that my ECP problem and this have yet to be solved. The dealers like what most of you have indicated, they either didnt want to get it solve or not really know how to do so.

I have been promise a new ECU from my dealers which i have suspected to the be cause of the problem.

Till my problem is solved i cannot do anything to the car, else my warranty may be void by them!

Gotten wait for a while.

Well, i can only say that the climate in Singapore is way much different from your side.

We are more humid over here.

Our Normal day temperature hover around 32-34 degs. When it rains, it will be around 26-29, but there is no snow here.

When it is hot it will be around 37-38.5% as shown on my maxidots.

The humidity is one of the reason that some of the electronics like the MAF to fail in less then 2 years time,(think) as well as other electronics. They oxides a lots too.

There are 350 2.5TDI superb running around in Singapore and majority or a large no of them are in the dealer workshop due to gearbox problem.

The gearbox problem is due to VW specs that the engine oils is lifetime, meaning dont have to change till abt 100k. But for high temperature countries the oils will not be able to withstand the 100k mileage and therefore the torque convertors burns out.

I will need the oil temp or pressure gauge inorder to prevent the above from happening becoz my warranty is base on a 60k or 3 years warranty whichever come first.

I got my car in Mar and now my mileage is 23k.. It is high considering that my country mileage is suppose to be 20k for the whole year.

Also i need a boost gauge, not becoz i am a racer, but becoz my EPC problem which i need to monitor after i have an ecu swap. Hopefully i can catch any problem before my warranty ends and i am able to do some claims.

Hopes the above helps.

sell my car! Oh! OUCH! My sides! Splitting!:D;)

One day over the winter I will tidy up the hole and the wiring, but for now I can't be bothered. It's not distracting as the gauges all have a separate wire attached to the headlight wiring which dims them with the headlights (to be the "same" at night as during the day  )

It works for me, and that's all that matters. To know my EGTs to the deg celsius, and my oil and water temps to the 0.1 deg celsius gives me such peace of mind.

I don't mind negative comments - never mind them, but she's my little beast and I wanted these gauges and nowt was going to stop me. I personally feel looking down at a DIN slot is not advisable to monitor a gauge whilst driving. I much prefer this position. :)

bro, the oil temp and oil pressure gauge tell you the condition of the engine oil, not the gearbox.

changing the engine oil every 10k km should be ok with synthetic.

as for boost gauge, it is good to have. mine is where the cash card reader is. tells me the condition of my snail and the valves.

cheers
