I've had enough

Featured Replies

Thats it, im gettin huffed off now. what does a guy have to do to remove swirls from the paintowrk?!?!?!

ive tried polishing by hand with scratch-x and no result

ive tried machine polishing (with a random orbital sander) and megs 5" pads and SRP, no result

I cant afford to get it proffessionally done and im not forking out for a pc. Would try again but im scared i'll take the paint off :(

HELP :(

Firstly VAG paint is very hard so it isn't easy removing bad swirls at the best of times, Scratch X won't even touch it. How bad are the swirls? By the sound of it you're not using the right types of polish, I'd try one of the Menzerna range, Intensive polish it they're bad or Final Finish if they aren't too bad. Megs 83 should also do the job. Have a look on the Detailingworld website for some tips, there's plenty of advice on products and technique that should be able to help you out.

SRP will only mask the swirls and not remove them and you havn't really got any chance of removing them by hand.

this isnt the results of when you went to fish brothers is it?

Hang on, youre using a SANDER?

have you thought of contacting trading standards? or even issue fish brothers with a small claims for the damage (swirls)?

haha, isnt that a little bit extreme? trading standards would most probably laugh at me. besides, 99% of cars ive seen on the road and in car parks have swirls.

and yes i am using a sander, obviously not with the sanding discs on :D

the pc has a random orbital action as opposed to rotary so instead of the £200+ cost of a pc, i thought id give a wickes performance orbital sander a shot for £22.

it doesnt seem to be doing any damage, infact nothing at all seems to happen when i polish!!

im gonna blame the lack of affect on the product im using though. on that polishedbliss website they use poorboys polish, anybody tried it?

A bit underpowered for VAG paint if you've got bad swirls, like I said before have a read on detailingworld and then give the Menz a shot.

Have you tried any liquid compounds like G3 or Autosol paint restorer.

Get these at any car paint shop or halfrauds stock Autosol.

They have slight cutting which should remove light scratch's / swirl marks. I tried Scratch X and a number of liquids like that from the states. They just don't cut enough. If you start lightly with a cutting compound and check your progress you should be ok. Always finnish off with a wax polish over the surface to re protect it.
