"Oil" Warning and spanner on Trip - service was in June

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I started up my car this morning and I got OIL coming up on the MFD by the dials... as well as a small spanner and the word "miles".

The car had a full service including oil change at the end of June... and since then I have done around 2,500 miles.

Why has this come up? Is the car due an oil change so soon?

Is it something do with the fact I used VAG COM a while ago... and after disconnecting I noticed it has also reset the trip mileomoter on the same display the OIL warning is coming up on.

PS. I have checked the oil level and it is fine.

Help appreciated.

The service indicator wont have been set properly at the last service.

Its pretty easy to clear if u have vag com, cant remember how to do it but a quick search should bring up the answer

it tells you how to reset it in the vehicle handbook, just look through for service indicator

Don't worry, it's a common quirk. Mine comes on at around 5K after a service. It is so well known that even the maintenance handbook tells you how to reset it - push in button (as used for clock) and keep in whilst you turn ignition on. Keep pushed in. The display clears then comes back with the elapsed miles. At that point release the button and your done.

Many thanks :)

Will my service reminder be out now or will it be ok?

I get my oil changed every year along with the cars service... I do about 8-9k a year.. is this too long for an oil change or ok?

It could throw a wobbly anytime - why worry; once you've seen it you know what to do next time. On fixed intervals and you know that you're getting a yearly service so no problem. The annual change is fine with 8-9K. See the thread on lubricants, it's well written and will set your mind at rest.

Skoda recommend every 10k miles or one year whichever is sooner so you're pretty spot on for both of them. Worth mentioning next time you're in for a service that your service indicator came on prematurely so that they can set it up correctly. Some of them are left in km at PDI I think which can cause them to come up early....

Exactly the same thing happened to me; checked oil and its fine, car just had a service about 3k miles ago so I just reset it using the manual.
