40,000 mile service... BLIMEY!

Featured Replies

Ok, so Felix went in for his 40,000 mile service yesterday, He's a Fabia 1.4 MPi. I bought a service plan when I got him from Hartwells in Abingdon so the MOT and service inspection were free. However, he needed two new front disks, 2 new front pads and 3 new tires. the grand total? £395.60. Is this a reasonable price or was i ripped off? Advice please!!!

Did it definitely need the work doing, or were they covering the cost of the MOT/Service that they lost out on? For price of "additions", I'd say front discs and pads should be around 80 quid for parts, plus labour to fit, and tyres will be anything from 30-50 quid each (depends on tyre) plus labour to fit.

Did mine last month; 40k, Timing belt kit, front ARB and wishbone bushes + MOT = £870. Then £475 for insurance. I almost cried.

Seems a lot but as scoobychris said might have been to cover service and mot, did the garage call to ask your consent for the work?

David

so say parts are £100 + an hour to fit at £65/hr.

3 tyres at £50 each = £150

so £315 + VAT =£370 so I'd say that was about right.

(have to say that I'd have gone for 4 tyres rather than 3)

They did ask my consent for the work and to be honest I just wanted to get everyting in running order. the 3 tyres were the two fronts and my spare wheel, rather than an odd back tyre. Thanks for the feedback guys, it seems that i wasn't had too much.

Cheers, Doug.
