Mpg

Featured Replies

My Octy has now done 30k and I've noticed that the MPG is improving - on my trip to work last night I got 55.3 MPG which I am delighted about :). I used to get 48-50ish.

My journey is 6 miles A road, then 22 miles motorway and I sat at a constant 65 mph (cruise on) on the motorway. I filled up with normal BP diesel not the Ultimate stuff, so I can only imagine it would be better with Ultimate!

Anyway, as I said I am delighted as yet again my decision to buy Skoda is proving to be a good one!

which engine is it?

which engine is it?

I'd certainly expect to better (or at the very least match) those figures in my mk1 1.9tdi, especially as 65 on the cruise will equate to a real-life 60 or so

I hope mine improves...I'm averaging 35.8 on the Trip B counter!! Seriously think its not gonna improve!

Ok I only done 9500 miles but people with either VRS are getting better than me!

 my long term average is 34.6mpg right now and I've got a TFSI VRS.

My 2.0 TDI isn't as good as the Mk1 was on fuel - about 5mpg down - but then it's got an extra 30hp and is in a heavier car so that's reasonable enough.

It certainly improved noticably over the first year , and now it's had it's second service it's doing very nicely on fuel again.

After 7400 miles, my 2l pd is still improving, and my current tank is reading about 44mpg, which in reality will be about 45.5mpg. My journey isn't the most efficient, so I'm quite pleased really.

Don't always trust the trip computer though, calculate mpg with the brim to brim method, to make fully sure.

Phil

At 3400 miles, my VRS TD is showing long term average of 44.1mpg. This has been creeping up and up. The per-journey figures for the last couple of trips I've done have been 46mpg.

To be honest I was getting around 45mpg but then its gone down for some reason. Probably due to shorter journeys now as I tend to use the company car. So mine one doesn't get stretched.

Its due its first service in a few weeks. I'll see how it gets on after that!

Both times when mine's been due for a service there has been a noticable drop in economy - about 3mpg on a tank full.

My Octy is a 2.0 Tdi - to be fair I have averaged 45.9 Mpg over the last 2000 miles but I have noticed that even sitting at 70-80 mph I get high 46-50 mpg at least to the gallon! My point is that the mpg is definetly improving the more miles I do, which is great!

My Dad's just past 30k miles in his 2.0TDI Touran and noticed mpg has crept up...

Speaking to the VW dealer when I picked my 1.9TDI Golf up I was 'informed' that both the 2.0TDI and 1.9TDI are only properly run in after about 30k miles.... taken with your observations and my Dad's read into that what you will !!!!

My 1.9TDi has done the following MPG (brim to brim):

0-10K 50.0

10-20K 50.1

20-30K 51.5

30-40K 52.3

40-50K 52.8

I record the mpg using the brim to brim method. The overall is 51.4mpg.

The trip computer reads 8% optimistic so the values would be:

54.0

54.1

55.6

56.5

57.0

with an overall of 55.5mpg

Lowfler - I guess we are both happy then! Did you have the same experience with the 1.9TDi unit as seems to be the general case with the 2.0TDi that the mileage got better as the engine got more miles on it?

My 2000 miles averaging 45.9 mpg did include a fairly rapid drive from Edinburgh to Bournemouth overnight both ways in September where time was of the essence shall we say.

Yes its definitely getting better with more miles. The biggest jump for me was between 20 and 30K. It's not just MPG that's improved - it feels faster too but I can't prove that. I'm currently on 52K on an 05 plate and its still getting better. It'll be interesting to see if it starts going down as I won't be changing the car untill its done 80-85K.

I do mainly motorway miles with Cruise control set to 78mph.

''I do mainly motorway miles with Cruise control set to 78mph''

Ah ha! To keep you safe from the Plod!?

My delight at all of this stems from the fact that I used to have a Ford C-Max which got nowhere near the claimed figures that Ford quoted. They got a slating in the press a couple of years for this exact thing, and yet my Octy just seems to get better! Had I had the 1.9 TDi then I am sure I would have been equally impressed.

My 06 plate 1.9 pd 105bhp estate is showing 57.4 mpg average after 25k miles. initially it was about 3mpg lower. This is mostly motorway journeys were I tend to cruise mid 70 mph (no point racing to the next queue) my old 90 bhp 1.9 tdi averaged about 58 mpg after 75k. So I would agree that the mpg improves as as the mileage increases. Mind you I would have still been happy with 54 mpg.

It's great when you buy a car and your expectations are exceeded! My Octy is going in for it's annual service Wednesday after which I am going to zero the tripmeter and see what I get over the next 2000 miles. I'll also try the brim to brim calculation method as recommendedby various Skodavians!

I've had my octy vrs TD about a month and done 4k miles (car has done 13k) - most of the driving is a 100mile trip to the office (each way), taking in A roads, motorway, car park [M25], and single track lanes). It seems almost no matter how I drive it, it will deliver between 48 and 52mpg, unless of course I really give it some stick. It feels like there is a bit of a ceiling at 53.5mpg, but i haven't tried hard enough to overcome it to be sure yet.

On a slightly related note, I had it valeted today and they had moved the driver's seat all the way forward. I didn't realise, and when I climbed in I managed to flip the accelerator and reve the engine, probably all the way to the rev limiter. When, I got in and drove away, I'm sure it felt even pokier! perhaps I unwittingly cleaned a load of gunk out?
