Just a quick question really - started my car up earlier and although its pretty cool outside (about 8 degrees) the fan at the front of the car was whirring away extremely loudly. I just wanted to know if anyone knows if its normal on a 1.6 FSi? I had the fan unit replaced in the summer as the primary fan had stopped working and the secondary fan was working overtime and it sounds remarkably similar.

It's not the condenser fan for the air conditioner is it?

That will run if the A/C is switched on or if the climatronic is NOT in ECON.

A/C is on but its not normally that loud i'm sure

See if the noise goes by running the engine with the A/C off, at least it will eliminate it from the possible causes.

Not uncommon, usually replace them in pairs tbh.

Have the same problems, the noise of fan was loudly then normally. In the end they replace one of the fans. They are 2, one for the engine and one for the AC.

When one is not working, the second takes the lead.
