white smoke from engine bay

Featured Replies

hi , any advise appreciated on this one please.

just bought a tin of that air con air treatment you can buy.

followed the instructions=

I started the car up but did this from cold , put aircon on full reciculate mode with blowers on speed 4. put the can of aircon freshner in the car behind the passenger seat and open the can , close the doors then run for ten minutes and then switch off .

after running the car on idle for only about 7 mins i heard a slight hissing noise then white smoke coming from the righthand side of the engine bay .

as soon as i saw this i switched the car off and the aircon .

I have had a look around but can not see any thing wrong .

so I went for a drive and the aircon seems to working ok and there is no warnings lights on the dash etc .

any ideas ??

might it be just the safety valve on the aircon kicking in due too much presure in the system??? or is it more serious??

I would think your a/c system is now overfilled and it may have purged some from the system.

The weight of refrigerant in your a/c system is critical and top up cans are a waste of time as you dont know what was in there to start with.

If you have too much refridgerant in there or more importantly to much oil the compressor will be damaged.

There is a moral, everything you buy in a can isnt a miracle. If your a/c doesnt work then get it looked at properly. If it does work then the level isnt low.

lummox ,its not the aircon treatment that you can buy to regass the system.

i bought a tin of that aircon air freshner and vent sanitiser that you stick in the car behind the passenger seat .

any ideas now ???

Then it will have nothing to do with the air con treatment. Sorry you description wasnt to clear but what you have done has nothing to do with the sealed a/c system as such.

what could have been the cause of this white smoke coming from the engine bay on the right hand side ??

presure build up in the aircon system ??

safety valve kicking in??

hope nothing to worry about..................

any ideas??

I dont see why you would randomly have an a/c fault like that though.

A fault code check maybe worth while but i'd suspect something else.
