Just got back from having a few days over at Blackpool , first good run the car has had . With only 1600 miles on the clock and i managed to get it upto 51.2 m.p.g on the M6(according to the trip) but most of the motorway i was getting around 47.8 m.p.g so quite happy with it upto now That was sticking the cruise on and staying at 70mph

Not bad at all, SWMBO is getting about 45mpg with a mix of dual carriageway, normal A roads and a bit of traffic on the daily commute. All with 3500 miles on the clock so expect the mpg to rise between now and 10k.

Not bad for a car with 170BHP.

I think thats utterly fantastic as your right 170 bhp is no slouch of an engine and 70 mph isnt exactly dawdling along either.

Like i said those figures were according to the trip computer with the crusie on at 70mph , just hit 1900 miles on it now so prob get a bit more m.p.g when the engine loosens up a bit

I did have a few "toe down" moments as well lol

As soon as you get it above 80-85 it drops down to eairly 40,s

Longest run i have had out in it and it flew past , 2 & 1/2 hrs no problem at all

Gently cruising, preferably at no more than 70mph, rewards with good mpg - urban congestion canes it!!

Mind you with liberal use of the right foot and 85-90 mph cruising (where possible) I'm getting 40 - 42mpg, which for the performance of the car is great. My Fabia 1.4mpi would only give me 35-38mpg for the same routine!

I'm averaging between 45/52 mpg on my commute to work (1/2 country roads then accross a city) which is approx 25 miles

Went to Birmingham a while back and got 52mpg on the motorways sat at 70/80ish

Reason for my question was I had A toyota with a trip computer which was totally inaccurate in comparion to my actual fuel consumption.

I've done a few checks against the accuracy of the trip computer and it has been pretty accurate. The largest difference I have seen is 1mpg over 400 miles.

I often see high 40's and even low 50's on a good steady run. Keeping a constant (70mph) speed is the key, no braking and accelerating.

Both our trip computers aren't a million miles away from the real thing, resetting the trip counter after filling up is usually consistent with what the computer says.

Seen a high of 53mpg on the motorway with cruise set at 65mph.

I've just completed a run back form Edinburgh to Carlisle. I took the Edinburgh ring road to the A702, then joined the M74 to Carlisle, a quick trip through the city centre than home. On the M74 I had the cruise control on all the time at about 78 indicated speed. With 3 people on board, a 12 volt leisure battery and a small sized bag the computer read 45mpg average when I got home. I've also found the computer to be accurate enough. I have now done 240 miles on this tank and the computer reckons another 300 to go. That'll do me.

I reckon the same; particularly when getting caught in slow traffic. A good A/B road blast will similarly yield 35 - 38mpg.

Hey; rather than us all talking about how good our fuel consumption is with our TDIs - who has got the worst?

Stick to 68mph in 6th with the cruise on and I easily achieve 60+MPG.

That plus if you look at the JKM RR day in the summer you will notice a standard PD140 really isn't that far behind what a standard PD170 should put out.

Getting 54 here, but then it's all lincolnsh!te roads where you are stuck behind a lorry doing 45 with very little oppatunaties to overtake. . .

Good for fuel econ, not good for mood.

Over the first 4000m my estate has averaged exactly 42.0 (from trip2 on the MFD) and any motorway trip at "any "speed has given me over this up to 48mpg. For the mid-range power and "outside lane in 5th at 70mph with a BMW on my tail", I reckon that's a pretty good balance.

try a stint at 70mph and check the trip, then do smooth 90mph and see how it's virtually the same, more speed, covering more miles for almost the same throttle at 70mph. depends on traffic of course as if your up and down all the time you lose out.

I've got a new Octy 2.0L TDI 140bhp (with DSG) and there's 1200 miles on it so far and regularly get 52-53 mpg with normal driving on country 'A' roads. My old 1.9 TDI also with DSG was getting over 60 mpg under the same conditions and I'm not exactly a slow driver!!
