Temperature Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi There,

The past two mornings when I have started my car, the coolant warning light has started flashing and there is a beeping. If I turn the ignition off and back on again it doesnt happen. The coolant level is as it should be and the temperature gauge does exactly what I would expect it to - rise gradually until it gets to the middle, then stay there.

At first I thought is may be a outside temperature warning system, but yesterday it wasnt especially cold.

Any ideas on what I should be looking for as a cause?

Many Thanks

Rob

Is it temperature or level indication?

Its this one:

It flashes.

I probably should have said earlier, but is a Mk1 vRS Estate... I did have a look through the manual, but it seems to be relevant to other models with the text display screen...

Also, I didnt happen this morning....

Thanks

Rob

If it is level then there is a known problem with the level sensor. If it is temp then it's not uncommon for the temp sensor to fail.

Ive just been reading through some other posts posted by Fatty5000, (Many Thanks) and from reading these id say the same. yet another example of why I should have used the search first, guess I just panicked a bit!

Ill have a go a cleaning the sensor in the bottle and see what happens....

Many thanks for all your help..

Regards

Rob

Had the same with my 53 Octy 1.9Tdi on startup a couple of times.

Levels all OK so guess it's just a sensor thing, not losing any sleep over it :D

Cleaning the sensor worked for me.

HI

Cleaning it will not cure the problem forever I am afraid

The expansion tank is the part that you need and they are only approx £8.00 + VAT

I fitted one with my fella a while back and it took litrally 15 mins and was quite easy to do

So may be worth doing it one weekend

Just make sure you do it when the engine is cold

Unfortunately (some may have read in Freedom Talk) my car is now off the road for repairs after someone decied to plant their car in the side of mine!

Hopefully it should be picked up today, just see what suspension damage there is and what mechanical fixes get done.

When I get it back though Ill just replace the header tank. Probably wouldnt hurt renewing the coolant either. My Mechanic owes me some favours so ill call em in!

Cheers for all the replies!!

I suppose there is a bonus though, while im driving a Mondeo, the Octavia will feel quick again when I get it back, so it will take longer till I want a remap again!

No you got it wrong

You dont want them , you need them ;)

Good luck , you will be having loads o fun in the Octy when you get it back , just make sure they will check the suspension over fully and get a printout of the geo after it has been done and make sure all looks good
