I've noticed the odd time that my engine idles at 1000 rpm instead of about 800. I thought this might be down to the weather or air temperature. I was going to post the same question but you beat me to it.

Someone with knowledge will be along soon I'm sure.

I would imagine that it was the DPF going through its purge cycle.

My 2.0 FSI idles at about 1250 rpm when cold, then drops to about 800rpm. When it is at 1250 rpm it is noisy, sounds like something is vibrating. I took it back to the dealer but they said it was my sunglasses in the holder in the dash top:rofl:. I pointed out that the vibration was coming from under the engine (with sunglasses removed) but none of them could hear it (or more likely none of them wanted to).

In general the engine does seem noisier than my last car (a Peugeot) but I have got used to it now.

I would imagine that it was the DPF going through its purge cycle.

I'd say so too - the exhaust needs to be above 600degC to burn off the soot, so if the filter's starting to blind, the ECU will increase the revs at idle to make sure it's hot enough...

I would imagine that it was the DPF going through its purge cycle.

My suggestion too; alternatively, use good fuel and 'give the car a bit of wellie' from time to time.

I've run 11,000 miles now and not had the DPF do its purge thing once. It probably helps that the car at least gets a full throttle 3rd/4th gear acceleration run on a long uphill M-way slip road first thing each morning. :D;)

My car has had this problem - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/maintenance-performance/help-vrs-pd170-sounds-like-tractor/87022/. I think it is actually quite common with the PD170 and well documented in Audi's.

I have had some success at curing it by getting the dealer to update all software and only running on VPower or BP Ultimate for the last 2 months.

Some Audi owners have also found that replacing the exhaust gas temperature sender has eradicated the problem altogether and I may have to get this looked at if the noise returns.

Some good info, thanks guys. Didn't think it was anything serious to worry about. Like the thought of giving it even more right foot. lol
