Whats the widest tyre furbys will take?

Featured Replies

It wont be long until i will be needing some new shoes for the old girl. At the moment iv got the standard size 205x45x16. I would really like to get some toyo T1-R's all round and have bin having a look on there website and noticed they do 225x45x16 and also 245x45x16 tyre! would these fit on the furby VRS? Iv also got the eibech pro spring on there, will that limit me to tyre options?

really excellent question - I'd like to know as well please.

Can't help on the original question, although I've heard 215's are the maximum, but if you're increasing the width of the tyre, you'll want to reduce the height of the sidewall so that the rolling radius of the tyre remains close to standard (to minimise speedo error).

Slight thread hijack but...

So could I oversize the height of the tyres? ie:205/50/16's ?

I'm ordering a pair of new fronts but I can get 205/50/16's for £40 per tyre cheaper than 205/45/16's!

Just noticed it says that u need 7.5-9.0 inch wide rims to fit these size tyres, what the size of the 16's on the VRS?

245's would look sexy as ****!

I've had 215/40 as have a few others. I also got a nice bulked wheel :)

Check out Toyo's site. They give details as to what size tyre fits x width. If I remember right they dont recommend 215's

Not only do they not recommend 215's they dont do them either!

Have a look at Toyo Tire

Toyo T1-R and T1-S are available in 215's according to their website

They only do the 215x40x16 not 215x45x16

Thats the size you want..... 215 x 40 x 16

:twirl: O yeah! sorry about that! Man do i feel sheepish!!

I would imagine, on an 8" wide 16" rim the furby could probably pull off 225/40 R16. But on a 17" rim, the generally favoured size is 215/40 R17. I don't think they do a 225/40 R17, else I'd give a pair a shot on the front - might help with grip....

Wouldnt you want a 225/35/17?

Im guessing the wider the tyre the better? is that right? Surley the more tyre you got on the road the more grip you will have and better handling as well?

Nope.

I imagine a 225/35 would be quite cool.

Sounds like an uber stiff sidewall though, even compared to a 40 profile tyre.

Do they do a 235/35 R17? :D

I think for "handling" sidewall characteristics come in to play, and just having more rubber on the floor means little - comes down to tread pattern and tyre quality/performance really. :)

They do a 245x35x17:thumbup:

So whats the verdict then guys?

My friend has a merc and has wider tyres on the back, is this doable on the VRS?

Im thinking 215x40x16 on the front and 225x40x16 on the back :D, anyone no if this is possible?

Don't forget the effect of wheel spacers as well.....

do you think i would need spacers to fit the 225's on the rear?
