i just though I'd better put this one to bed....

We've been unable to prove, to Skoda and the dealer's satisfaction, that the car had been regularly serviced. As it's almost 3 years old, and we don't keep cars past the first MOT, it's been decided that it'll be sold to the dealer for about

Seems to be a trend for Skoda UK to avoid warranty payments based on service history.

I think it's the "unlimited mileage" cars that have haunted them. They were brought for company use (like this one was) and do moonshot mileages, which must cost them a fortune!

Phil

Alternatively a letter to Skoda UK stating that you want the work done under warantee would be a good place to start. If they respond saying they won't do the work under the warantee, you might be able to treat this as an anticipatory breach of contract.

In this case there are three options:

1. Get the work done. If you have to pay, you can sue Skoda UK for the full amount via small claims court

2. If they do pay after all, everything is fine

3. Immediately sue them for breach of contract.

Also you should try the liquidator for documents. I'm not sure how long they hold them for though.

I'm no legal expert and this is just my understanding of the law and is offered without any warantee whatsoever. You should obtain legal advise before acting, or failing to act on this information.

Cheers

I think a good first step for this would be for part of the labour charge to cover the cost of the mechanic bothering to look for the service history booklet in the glovebox...I mean, it's not like it's just sitting there on top of the manual or anything...

but if the history is missing for wahtever reson then the mfr is not bound to offer warranty work... sad but true....

equally this might answer why it isnt asking for a service--- not saying it was used just being devils advocate.....:P

In this case, they didn't stand a chance of getting the service book, as it had been stolen. We say that if the car needed a service, it would be asking for one. The dealer says, however, that the ECU shows it's set for fixed service intervals. The driver can't remember when it was last serviced -and the dealer

So...if the panel-scratcher who serviced the car didn't find the service book and so didn't stamp it, they might well try and argue that it hasn't been fully serviced?

slightly derogatory term for a skilled technician but the cust will always have their invoice to go back with to get the book stamped - but if you lose both then unfortunatly you are screwed - why i never keep service recipts in car.

Nonsense...a skilled technician would be able to find the service schedule in the glovebox! :P
