Cisco Router question

Featured Replies

A quickie question.

At work I have a Cisco 1721 router (one of many routers) that has developed a fault on the Single port Wan interface card. The card is removable, so a quick call to the maintenance company and they are sending a replacement. The question is, can I power down and swap the card, power on again and everything carry on as before?. I guess the mac address is not tied to the router config?

That's correct.

The config will just refer to interface serial0/1 (or whatever type of interface it is) so you can easily swap the card and everything should spring into life again.

Alex is correct. It will be fine.

It should be okay....provided the correct WIC is installed in the same slot on the router. (Of course having only 2 WIC slots to chose from does help - unless you have the "Voice" model variant)

Let me know if you have any further questions

Thanks for that, The reason for asking is the replacement card is being delivered tomorrow, and I'll be in spain, so someone else in the office is going to fit the card.
