Rev limiters???

Featured Replies

I was driving a car yesterday and took it up to the limiter in 2nd (for a number of reasons). The car in question has quite an agressive limiter and you do 'bounce' off it. It must have done it 5 or 6 times before I got fed up and changed into 3rd.

Does it do any long term signifcant damage to do this?

not if the engine is properly serviced and warmed up. the rev limiter is there to protect the engine from damage, so it would be pointless having it set too late in the revs to do that.

but i wouldnt make a habit of it ;)

also most rev limiters ive experianced result in you bouncing off the max revs, its as the engine management kicks in.

not my car :P

then bounce away ;)

I once had a job a Southampton Docks and one of the jobs was to move new Renaults from the storage compound to the PDi centre and back again. As I am sure you can imagine the novelty soon wears off so we had to think of other ways to amuse ourselves - Lets just say a fair few limiters were tested.

Aha, that's why most of them are faulty.

The car was a 1.8 civic which is the bog standard hire car we get from work and yes you do get bored of turning the traction control off and/or hitting the limiter/testing the abs after a while.
