What are the running costs like on 1400 16 valve 100bhp Fabias like. mpg things like that.

Thought of replacing my Felicia with one.

One paper the running costs don't seem a lot more than an 8 valve Fabia.

And when the Fabia got all those awards off What Car it was th e16 valve that got them.

If it's any help, we run a 100BHP 16v Lupo, and that gives mid-to-hgh 30s MPG. The 100BHP engine is interesting- it's not torquey, but goes really well when revved. WE've had no reliability problems.

had the 1.4 16v 100bhp before my 2.0 was a nippy thing once the revs were going:) not too bad on fuel either.

I've had my 1.416V for 2 years now (previously had a Felicia 1300 which my mom gave me) and to be honest I haven't really noticed that much of a difference fuel wise. Interestingly I have travelled back from Calais to Wolverhampton using only half a tank.

If i had a choice of engines, id try the 8V first as thats the tried and tested lump, but the 16V is also a very good unit.

It depends on what your using it for i suppose, ie town driving, long distance, etc etc

I get anything from 30 mpg for an 8.00 cross town commute, through to 45 mpg for a motorway cruise, perhaps 42ish for country driving (if you don't floor it!).

As been said, you've got to be prepared to keep it in the rev range if you want to enjoy yourself (from about 3700 - 6000 revs).

EDIT: Note 1.4 16v needs timing belt replacement at 60000 miles or 4 years (about 220 quid), 8v doesn't.

Also , just for comparisons sake , my 8V does an indicated (MFA computer) 38 mpg in town , down to low 30s in stop start traffic jams , and mid to high 40s on a run , depending how naughty you are being with the throttle. On the minus side , it is 32 BHP light compared to the 16V. Id try both engines if I was you , just to be sure youre getting what you want from the car.

I have to agree with the above fuel consumptions, I prefer the 8v over the 16v just because I prefer torque to revs. The 8v is imho a lot easier to drive because of this and group 2 insurance in the classic spec.

Yeah , and I very rarely have to rev my car over 4000 rpm , thats how i like it , I also much prefer low down torque to high rpm power.

Precisely, people normally look at me gone out when I say i don't like 16v. Our new fire appliance at work has a 3.0 16v turbo diesel and you have to set off in second way too many revs and not enough bottom end torque. Great fun in the wet though ( 10.5 mpg average :eek:)

Our Lupo is over-sensitive throttle-wise- it's hard to just get 1000-1500rpm to pull away. You get used to it though.

It is fun in the Lupo- you can pass some much bigger cars easily :).

We'd have liked a TDI Lupo, but couldn't stretch to it. The 16v is very different indeed to my Fabia vRS.

I love my 1.4 16V. As people have mentioned, it does need revving when pulling away, but it's a great engine for country lanes and motorways, and incredibly quiet when cruising. When you floor it to go past trucks etc though, you get a really satisfying roar from the engine which brings a smile to your face and fills you with confidence.

I have a 1.4 16V Fabia with 100 bhp and SWMBO has a 1.4 TDI with 75 bhp and to be honest the TDI is a far more relaxed drive.

With mine I find I really have to plan pulling out of junctions more carefully as it really doesn't pick up too quickly from a standing start unless given a boot full of revs. At motorway speeds the TDI accelerates better too and feels like it has far more power than it is creditted with.

If you can stretch to it go for a 1.4 TDI, far better engine in my opinion.

Hi, I have really enjoyed my 1.4 16v. It is one of the most enjoyable things about my Fabia. It sounds nice and is peppy. I get about 28mpg in the city (fairly heavy footed) and up to 44mpg on the freeway.

I have only driven the 1.4 16v, 1.4mpi and the 1.2HTP - so don't know about the diesels. I like revvy, peppy motors, so the 1.4 16v was my pick. It is also at least 4 seconds quicker to 60 (really) compared to either of those motors I just mentioned. I have friends with both others they just haven't got a chance. The other motors might be "easier" to drive in the city, I'll give them that. But they don't feel as flexible and even though they feel torquier somehow when you drive them, really it is just a sensation that doesn't translate into reality. Kind of like the first Jetta diesels, oddly felt like the pulled well, but most other cars where indeed much faster.

You do have to get used to the electronic accelerator, but I find that the accelerator delay is almost non-existent now compared to new.

Only major pain with the car has been the suspension, but that is not an isolated one. It is fine now (finally) after replacing drop links.

Oops, (not really relevant to you, but...) my first service cost me about 40 quid (but that is in Colombia at a local Skoda dealer).

The 8v 1.4mpi is same engine as 1.3mpi in the Felicia with some modifications, and is therefore better as not VW :D lol. OHV means better low down torque I think, but both should be nice I'm sure.
