As per the title - anyone else had an email about this?

I renewed my lite sub after finally concluding that the talextt add on is utter pants, and within a few days had this email sent through.

Seems a bit worrying to me as it sounds like they are abandoning their support base, even more worrying if they've just released a new version??

Sorry if this has already been posted - it didn't flag up on a search....

I've been a huge fan of Talex and advocated it's virtues on here many times but like you and no doubt others recieved an e-mail earlier this week notifying about the change to Novus Systems. I hav'nt updated my Talex since the notification so I have no idea what the support/backup is like, only time will tell I suppose.

same here, ive updated my talextt1 ok, but still awaiting software to update my elite and so far not heard a whisper from novus (talex keep passing the buck too).

I've been trying to get in touch with them this week but I'm coming to the conclusion they are between offices.

Talex seems to be a trade name but they have operated under different names before.

did show someone else on here the picture of the unit they are moving to, basically a wooden shed, not as good as the address sounds.

  • 2 weeks later...

hi

just incase you're still looking forthe update

go to talex.co.uk

on the screen to the left

select download area

select update utility

run and follow on withrun and you should have the update

hope itworks for you it has for me

pinkwell

it wont work on elites, totally different to to the talex and talex lite, thus the long wait as they cant write an update program that is bug free for the elite as it works in a different way.

When can we expect an update facility for the Elite?

a few weeks, that was a month ago, so your guess is mine, might send them another email actually... yeap i will from their email facility box thing on the talex site.

OK, I'll do it too. Should be interesting to see what the replies are like?

EDIT: Scrub that, i'll phone them tomorrow :D

you might get a better response and certainly faster  let us all know, i too might ring them... lets organise a briskoda group ring

but on a plus note it just means your subscription will last longer ;)

They got the source code?

Sure a few of us on here could fix it for a fee ;)

I tried phoning them today, nada, I have gone back to my original Talex for the time being as I like to keep the database up to date because of all the new and exciting places I get to visit :D

i was hoping you would ring... im still awaiting a response.

There seems to be some funny happenings going on, and a definate shortage of staff.

My account manager went on maternity leave and they didn't think to tell anyone.

stu you seem to know them well, what is the score with camera verifications? do they wait till 2 or three report the same one or do they actually go out and check? if they do go out and check, how many do they have to cover the uk?

I don't really know Paul, I only really speak to the sales staff.

So it sounds like my original suspicions aren't completely paranoid then :(.

At least my lite is still working with the updates for now, don't hold any hope of the talextt add-on getting sorted anytime soon so I'll leave my tomtom standard (and working correctly!) for now....

So does anyone actually know what's going on or can't they say in public???

I get the slowly going under feeling about this.

Sell off maintenance to a third party and get out of the business to concentrate on other areas or just shut the company down and take the money while the going is good.

I could be way way wide of the mark here and things could be fine, but as I've only got a talex lite and I haven't used it in months I can't really say.

Still shouldn't be too hard to break the format used by Talex for the camera database and create an open source one should they actually go totaly under.

Hardest bit would be the updater utility.

This may or may not help.

At the bike show last week I met one of the directors from Talex Elite and had a lengthy conversation over updates etc. What I was told, and it could be complete BS of course was that Talex was started by 4 people. 1 of the original directors / founders has left and taken the "Talex" brand to Talex Elite. Novus GPS is the "other 3" original founders / directors. Novus is getting established and will be fully supporting the original Talex line up as Talex Elite will be fully supporting the new box of tricks.

I was told the update site / service for the original talex will be left unchanged and theat only the "Support" side of life may experience a hiccup.

The Talex Elite update site will be up as soon as terms have been agreed on the use of the talex database by both products.

Ok, please take all of this with a pinch of salt, but this was what I was told, at the NEC show last Thursday by a "director" of the Talex Elite brand.

I don't think they are going under, but they are going through a period of transition.

I have got no ties with Talex, or Talex Elite, just saw a window of opportunity to ask some questions

Fluff'

Fluffmiester may know a little more than me however here it is as I understand it.

The company was a partnership which has now or is in the process of dividing and hence Novus systems.

One partner retains the Talex brand and the other uses the Talex brand under Novus systems.

Lol - Looks like you hit the button at the same time as me Tony.
