At Last! Wipers that work cold!

Featured Replies

One of my biggest gripes with the Superb are the aero wipers when they are cold, whilst they work brilliantly in normanal conditions their weekness was that they set in the last position when they get very cold, i'm sure most of you know what I mean. So far I have tried Skoda and Bosch wipers and had the same problem with both, So for the 3rd set in two years I decided to try some Valeo X-TRM flat wiper blades of E-bay for £23, They arent as asthetically nice to look at as the Bocsh and the ones I had if I put them on as the pack instucted the passenger side was too short to wipe the rain sensor so the wipers were on constanty when it drizzelled! swopped them over and sorted that problem but the best thing was over the last week of very cold icy morning I've not had a problem with them Setting and causing a racket going up the screen, they were music to my ears.

Thanks Bryan, I'll give them a try. The Bosch aero blades are completely hopeless as you describe. Do VAG actually do any testing on run-out models?

The Aero Wipers are fine on the VW Bora and VW Golf but I have found then to be shocking on the Superb....

I've coated my screen with Rain-Ex. An excellent product that makes the standard Skoda aeroblades more than useful. At motorway speeds, even in the heaviest rain intermittent wiping is more than adequate, with the added bonus of beading water travelling up the windscreen keeps passengers amused.

I also noticed last week that the product seems to prevent water from freezing on the screen during frosts. However, living not to far from the sea on the South coast, temperature only got down to -1°C on the gauge, though the body work was properly frozen. A quick flick of the wiper and away.

Would recommend this product on all windows to give a waxed look to match the bodywork, but does need reapplying every few weeks.

I'll add my thoughts to this as I've just used some of this stuff. Admittidly I used the Halfords variant as I bleed orange, but we had no Rain-X when I got this and Auto Express actually put the Halfords stuff higher than the Rain-X due to equal performance and lower price.

Anyway, this stuff is indeed excellent. My blades are, well, in need of replacement (she's a 53-plate and they've not been changed by the looks of things) and it's given them a new lease of life. Even driving down the m'way at 70 in rain only needs fast intermittent, as Leeboy said; much to the bemusement of people you overtake/overtake you.

Incidentially I'm about to change for Bosch AeroTwin's as I've always had good results with Bosch blades, so I'll post up on how the new blades and rain repellent work together.

Have a search on here for Aquapel. Generally regarded by those who use it as a cheaper and longer lasting alternative to Rain-X :)
