Subtle Fabia ICE install

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I'm looking to upgrade the audio in my Fabia vrs a little, not much as I think the standard system is very good, just after a little bit more punch. But I want to keep it OEM looking and keep the practicality of the boot as I have a daughter.

I had a 12" sub and JBL amp in my last car with infinity front speakers, and sounded awesome but unfortunabtly wasnt very practicial.

Anyway,

The missus is going to get me this for XMAS... what do you think?

What attracted me is that you can get a supplementary amp which plugs into side and acts as a 4 channel amp, giving 4 x 50wrms.

I have an Alpine 9846r headunit

A few questions...:

1. How hard is it to feed the wires down the side of the car and into the engine bay? Is there a grommit behind the glovebox I can use?

2. Does anyone know what the standard speakers are rated at WRMS wise? As I think they are quite good... would they handle 50wrms from the amp?

Help appreciated.

Joel

I had the original Basslink in my old Fabia. See this post - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/ice-security-insurance/infinity-basslink/13362/

It definitely improves the overall sound (even with the standard headunit) and could really thump when it wanted to. However, I needed all the boot space I could get when my son was born so really had to take out the sub. Don't know how old your daughter is but if you need to carry around all the usual kid related paraphernalia then you may want to invest in a under seat sub or a compact sub blended into the rear wheel arch aperture.

Cheers

What about looking at an underseat sub option? Can't remember exact details off hand, but I'm sure Alpine offer one?

I remember John (texasjohn) had one when he had his Fabia. Try a search for posts by him....

I've had a look at the underseat option but I'm not sure I fancy the idea of bass rumbling around my backend :\

My daughter is 4 months. Me and her Mum live apart at the moment but I see her twice a week. I dont think space will be a problem as long as I have 3/4 of the boot and half the rear seats.

What attracts me to that particular sub is the option of fitting an ADDON 4 channel amp (out put of 4 x50 or 2x100wattss) which would make it futureproof if I ever wanted to upgrade the front components (which I will at some point). Then it will be compact and I wont need another 2 channel amp :)

I'll order it and see how it goes...

as an idea of size this is the sub in a MINI boot (which is tiny!)
