Just missed MFD2 on eBay...

Featured Replies

.....it went for £112!!!!!

Find MFD2 Skoda Navigation System 16:9 TFT RNS CD 2006 on eBay within GPS Systems, Navigation GPS, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 18-Nov-07 21:52:58 GMT)

I have the stream MP3 at the moment in my 2-day old Scout. Apart form Nav, what does the MFD2 give me or take away over and above losing the display for the rear parking sensors and would it be more sensible to invest in a Garmin or tomtom?

Any view appreciated.

Regards

Mark

There are loads of thread on this unit but in a nutshell:

Bad points:

You lose the climatronic and PDC graphics (you'll miss them for about a week at most).

It won't mute when you go into reverse as the PDC speaker is seperate to the stereo system (speaker is in the passenger B pillar).

The MFD2 isn't what you would call cutting edge and can be frustratingly slow to respond to commands. To be fair the system is a good few years old now but still comparable to the latest stick on units.

There isn't a full 7 digit post code search which can be a PITA.

If you have an Audience unit (as did I) you lose your CD changer as it's inside the head unit.

Good points:

It reroutes quicker than any system I have used.

It isn't a silly 'stick on the window' affair which is a PITA.

The colour screen is nice, is obviously OEM and makes a huge difference to the look of the interior.

You can still run the AUX socket through it as well as the boot mounted CD changer.

It talks to the maxidot display for things like ETA and turning graphics etc.

It isn't 100% reliant on GPS, it can carry on by looking at the rear ABS sensors for speed and (IIRC) it has an internal gyro for direction.

If you get a TMC enabled disc it will give motorway congestion details as well as the London C-charge zone. (The C-charge zone is on all of the later nav discs, TMC or not)

You can also use it to view DVD's or whatever you like via an A/V adaptor which gives you L and R sound inputs and composite video (like you find on the front of your telly)

If you DO get an MFD2 don't forget it will require a different plastic trim surround to the Stream unit.

I did a search on MFD2 earlier and read loads of stuff, but although I found the mention of losing graphics I didn't have my car at this point so wasn;t sure what this meant. Also, yours is the most comprehensive summary I have come across so far, so thanks for the reply :) I skimmmed through the manual from vrsStu's web site. Pretty cr@p manual though.

You say no 7-digit postcode search. Does this mean a lesser digit postcode search or no postcode search?

You can do a 5 digit search: For example you can do SG5-4 on the MFD2 but not SG5-4XX like the modern units.

(By 5 digit search it means UP TO 5 digits like SG10-4 )
