LED to match instruments?

Featured Replies

Given that the dimmer circuit for the instruments regulates a 5V DC with a duty cycle to dim the LED lighting - would hooking up a green boostgauge LED that would be 5 or 6V match in? Of course respecting polarity....

Thanks for any advice

Does this 5V supply apply to any other illumination (switches/ radio ) and do you know if the system is the same on the octavia mk1

If the gauge you are using is illuminated by leds it would probably be designed for 12v and would probably need a resistor in the path to the illumination led changed to work on 5v

if the whole gauge is leds then its more complicated as the measuring part would need 12v and the feed to the leds would need to be the 5v if the gauge is based on a lm3914 chip it is relatively easy to do as the led supply can be separate to the rest of the cct

should be dead easy then may take a few attempts to get the fade the same, but just a resistor and an led to replace the lamp .Im working on a led boost gauge/afr/duty cycle meter ,hence the question about using the same 5v variable duty feed in an octavia
