Problems with passenger door

Featured Replies

Hello...

I have a problem with my right front door ( the passenger door (Norwegian model))

The car is a Superb 2004 exclusive.

The problem is that the lights under the door panel doesn't work. Mirrors, and speaker is ok! But the indicator in the instrument panel, that indicates if a door is open, doesn't indicate for this door.

I was woundering if there might me a broken connector or something similar? Are the problems with the light under the doorpanel and the indicator connected?

It's possible, most likely culprit is the plastic plunger switch on the A-pillar. It looks like a small piece of plastic sticking out of a a rubber grommet, with a screw or rivet holding it in. You'll know you've got the right one if, on the other side of the car, you push it and your dash warning goes out.

This isn't right. VAG cars have a microswitch in the door latch which operates the lighting and the dashboard indicator via CANBUS link to the CCM. There is no switch on the pillar.

You will probably find this microswitch is faulty or has broken soldered joints. It's a common VAG problem which (as usual) they have failed to rectify. If you shop around you can get the microswitch separately (but not from VAG) it's a standard type.

And this also fix the light? Are there any pictures of this part?

The light under the door only comes on when the door is open and the 'door open' warning, obviously, also only happens when the door is open. These are probably the symptoms rather that the fault itself; the problem appears to be that the car does not know that the door is open.

Both the faults you report have one thing in common; something that is supposed to happen when the door is open does not happen, and the common link is the switch that detects the door being open.

The remedy being proposed fits the known facts and is probably correct.

Okey! Thanx!

But where can I find a microswitch?

In the UK, these microswitches are available from suppliers such as RS Components, Farnell or Maplin. The switch is an international standard pattern but be prepared to have to alter the terminal arrangements and possibly the lever - it can be done though. I would suggest you test the switch in situ to check for faults and then remove the latch assembly if a fault is found. When you have the faulty switch in your hand, a ruler and the Internet are probably your best aids - electrically, the switch is not critical.

I stand corrected :)

Must have been confused with my Golf, lol.

I will do... Is the switch inside the dorr behind the trimpanel or where can I find it?

The switch is in the latch on the edge of the door - the bit which mechanically engages with the loop on the door pillar.

It sounds expensive... Do I have to change the complete doorlock unit?

The trim panel has to go of to acsess the switch, right?

You can take the switch out of the latch assembly and replace it separately.
