Buying Advice: 1.8T 4x4

Featured Replies

Its standard, i drive it like you should all turbo cars.High 20's do you knock it out of gear.I have just changed the air filter to a pipercross and i did get better than usual from a tankfull(25 mpg) maybe the airfilter was knackered. It looked quite dirty.

Mixed driving over 10/11 miles anything between 0 - 100, flat out up hills (and down) but also about 4/5 miles at steady 40 due to number of dribblers on the way to from work. I did once manage 17mpg:eek: just after it was mapped but that was on a much shorter trip and trying my new toy with no traffic - very rare:(. But even on long runs (200+) at 90+ it does 32 upwards - had 40 before it was mapped.

New air filter will help - I change mine for stock new one at least every year, there cheap.

4x4t

maybe its worth getting it remapped -

I have a generic APR map.

I get 28mpg long term average.

Normally 330 miles per full tank.

28-41mpg on long runs.

33mpg is easy with a calm driving.

Seriously 'spirited' driving is rarely less than 21mpg.

Not really relavent but I thought I would post it anyway

IHI Turbo etc, 356 bhp, averages mid 20's, 30 on a run but always driven hard, I did nurse it from Winchester to Peterbourough with a sliping clutch, never over 70 & achieved 44 mpg, On the track I used a whole tank & averaged 8.4 mpg

The std 4x4 is an incredibly underated car, OK it leans a bit in corners but just hangs on, Im convinced its quicker round corners than the VRS once you get used to the lean & realise its not going any further, a custom remap to realise the full 225 bhp & its a winner every time, I just couldnt stop at a remap :):):)

The horrible suspension lets it down i know what your saying about the handling it dosent let go it just rolls around a lot.I did think about a remap but being stuck in cornwall i am limited to Custom Code or Revo without driving for hours.I have just brought a set of Audi S3 front brakes to go on.I quite fancy a custom code remap and a KW variant 1 coilover kit i also have a set of forge adjustable rear arms ready for fitting.I would like it to see 200 bhp out of mine because i think it should have come with that from new.

A Jabba custom map will see 220 bhp & well worth the drive :):):) Its honestly worth making the effort

I would like a jabba remap but i reckon its about 5 hrs drive each way so i would need to stay up there 1 night aswell and i dont thing its worth it for an extra 15bhp.I would prefer to get it handling and stopping before i have a remap.

as good as jabba are at doing what they do take the figures with a pinch of salt. i had a jabba custom map, fmic, intake, samco tip and got 226bhp on their rollers then got a blueflame turbo back system fitted and never got over 202bhp i think anywhere else. it felt good and went well but figures aren't the be all and end all of it though :)

I will agree with you i spoke to my custom code agent and they said realistically about 195bhp which is a 45bhp rise thats good enough for me.Now just have to sort some kw 1's fit my brakes first and maybe a remap after.

If you sort the handling/stopping first, you'll be going faster anyway.

Seems to me you've the order of modification just right.

Before you do the suspension pm focusZtec, he did quite a good set up on his 4x4. Whilst KW 1's will lower the car Im not sure how good the handling will be. I run KW 3's which are excellent but probably too expensive unless you are going for ultimate handling, I know KW 2's are rebadged Koni items so 1's are probably made by someone else as well. I know the set up he came up with was excellent & a lot cheaper than the KW 3's I bought :mad:

Pm sent.I have looked for other suspension and springs but cant find very much to fit a 4x4.

No driveline shunt at all with my 4X4 Estate. Fuel consumption with a Jabba remap currently averaging 32.16 mpg over 23136 miles, mostly using Shell V-Power. :)
