vagcom on windows 98

Featured Replies

Been looking at a second hand pc tablet running windows 98 and was wondering if the latest versions of vag com will run on 98???

Looks like it will, but I think XP or higher is best, esp with USB.

i currently use a laptop with xp, just thinking if it works with no probs on a tablet then its something that can be chucked into the back of the car and there if anyone else needs anything done

As cjb stated, it should work with a serial interface for sure. USB support back then was iffy and no promises if you are trying to run USB. The program should work fine on Windows 98.

For USB it would ay least need to be Windows 98SE.

i beleive it is win98se

USB support started with Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), VAG-COM does work fine with those but we usually recommend Windows XP. In combination with older PCs or Laptops you may find that they have a serial port so we would recommend getting a serial interface instead.

Currently it looks like we will stop supporting Windows 95 and NT4 support for VAG-COM, but it should not be a problem to get a decent laptop which runs Windows 98SE or even Windows 2000.

cheers, i dont really want to spend more than £100 on a cheap laptop which will sit in the boot and needs to be cheap in case it gets broken/stolen as i dont want my main one used.
