Thoughts on Nissan Alemera 1.5 SVE

Featured Replies

I had a long conversation with a Nissan tech many moons ago about this dCi business and he was adament it was a Nissan engine.

The YD22 has a displacement of 2184cc in both 124 and 136 BHP vairants. The 2.2 Renault Laguna unit was 2188cc. I also had the opportunity to have a 2.2 Primera and a 2.2 Laguna side by side and they look and sound very different.

Both X-Trail and Primera engines were YD22 engines which is a Nissan code.

I've never had definitive proof of whats what apart from a Nissan tech and a guy I spoke to at Nissan Technical at Cranfield along with direct comparison between the two engines.

I know that Renault had a 2.2 litre non CR unit in the mk.1 Laguna but I believe that went on to be the 2.2dCi 150 unit used in the Laguna 2.

Just posted a link to the mentioned article above. Here it is again i remember the origional 2.2 was a dog and the improvement of the 2nd gen was enourmous. I recently test drove the latest 170 Ren/Nis diesel X-Trail and it was very impressive.

What car said the first ones were fun to drive.

The later ones were a little heavier

They are uber reliable though

I've been digging around on the NPOC forums (of which I used to be a member) and I recall no end of arguments about the whole Nissan dCi saga and the general concensus of opinion is the 2.2 diesels used in the Nissan cars was a Nissan sourced engine. Alot of the car reviewers assumed the dCi engine was the Laguna unit. IIRC the Nissan 2.2 was Chain driven while the Renault 2.2 had a cam belt and they had different cc's

The 136 had the dCi badge thanks to the alliance between Renault/Nissan.

The Primera P12 also got the 1.9 Renault dCi 120 on the continent but not here.

Heres some bits about it here:

Nissan Primera Owners Club: p11 diesel estate or p12 diesel estate

Yes the original 2.2 Di 124BHP (126PS) was crap, I know beacause I had one.

I had a further hunt round ‘tinternet and think on balance, more peeps reckon on the engine being a Nissan rather than being a Renault.

I had older version of Nissan Almera 1.4 , 5 door. Never failed me. I drove to Czech Republic 3 times, cruising at 80-90 in Germany, simply brilliant car. I can imagine the new engine will be even better. Go for it.

The 2001-on almera was the better car of the two in style terms, my dad had both the old and new version and preferred the 2001 on version the one your after, the fact that the dealer slapped on some alloys, fat exhaust and a spoiler made it even more appealing to him at the time, compared to the version he was looking for at the time.

From looking at the site above... all the recalls happened before 2004 so looks like they had ironed out all the kinks by the 2004 models.

Regarding the price... i honestly cant say that its over priced... not compared to all the other almeras on ebay... they are all ranging from £3,000 to £7,000... the £3,000 having 61,000 on the clock and 2003 plate SE... but in terms of the SVE spec model... the link i posted above is the cheapest... with the loswest mileage!

And as said above... General Car Chat!... It doesn't say General SKODA Car Chat does it?! Hehehe

Thanks for your comments guys... sorry to have started an arguement about who made the dCI engine!! lol

EDIT: Question regarding the sat nav as cant find any info on the net.

Im guessing that the lower disc slot in the car is the DVD one and while using the sat nav i would need the navigation dvd inserted, and also can i aquire new copies of this disc with updated maps on?

And finally... is the system capable of playing dvd movies?

Wrt the price, I've always found the Glass' guide (accessed via the Vauxhall website under "Value my Car") invaluable. It lets you know the px value of the vehicle which gives you a baseline to aim for :D

eg....

Nissan Almera SE

1.5 Petrol 5-door Hatchback

5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2004 53

Mileage: 61,000

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition: £3050

Average condition: £2740

Below average condition: £2450

Cool... thats a pretty nifty little tip to value a car... did it for the one i ebay i linked to:

Nissan Almera SVE

1.5 Petrol 5-door Hatchback

5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2004 04

Mileage: 13,000

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition:

£4280

Average condition:

£3850

Below average condition:

£3450

So i probably would be able to knock the price down on one if they're all up for about £5,000!!!

P.s. tried to do my car but they dont have L&K Felicia to select!! lol

Cheers

I had a further hunt round ‘tinternet and think on balance, more peeps reckon on the engine being a Nissan rather than being a Renault.

We'll call a truce on this one :o

The Di engine whether Renault or Nissan was crap and I think that is something we can both agree on

Aplogies for taking your thread WAAAAAAY off topic.

With the sat nav in the Primera (the same system) I had a dedicated DVD slot for the mapping and a dedicated single slot CD player.

The Almera centre console is a relative of the Nissan N-FORM system from the P12 Primera where the stereo controls, drive computer, climate control and navigation are integrated to avoid the traditional 'button fest'.

Your Nissan dealer should be able to order updated DVD's for the system if necessary and no you cannot play movies unless someone has cracked the hardware/software to facilitate this but it's most unlikely. The sat nav is made by Xanavi Informatics if that is any help to you.

Here is a user manual for the Birdview system, it's for an X-Trail but it's more or less the same as the Almera unit and gives you an idea of what the unit is like.

Interesting as I found it to be 'OK'. Nothing more, nothing less, just 'OK'.

I had a few as courtesy cars on several occasions, always 1.5's and always the S model.

I drove one from Worthing to Milton Keynes and back on one occasion and the only critiscism I had was the fuel consumption but that was probably made worse by my lead foot.

the model i test drove was a dark grey 2005 05 1.5i SE and had only 2k on the clock or something and was about £7500 i dont think they hold their value that well i found the controls for the aircon and stereo were a bit complex the seats felt firm and i couldnt get a comfortable driving position

The only thing I don't like about the 2003 onwards almera was that Nissan seemed to take shortcuts and made it look cheaper than the 2001 model by giving it a facelift, ie cheaper looking front and rear lights but a improved interior.

This put my dad off getting another one when it was time to change and also the dealer could not give him a good deal

Davy

I personally think the run out facelift was a big improvement and the front projector headlamps smartened up the front no end.

The N-FORM centre console is a little unorthodox to start with but once you get used to the buttons it is pretty easy to use. I am however a gadget freak so that might have been an advantage :D
