Thoughts on Nissan Alemera 1.5 SVE

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

Just wanting your expert/honest opinions on the Nissan Almera, namely the 1.5 16v SVE model to be precise.

Have liked them for a while, a friend of mine had one some time ago for a couple of years and i quite liked it.

Have seen the SVE models on ebay for around £5,000.

They come complete with...

  • Remote locking/alarm etc
  • Electrice windows
  • Reverse parking sensors
  • Alloy wheels
  • Air conditiong/Climate control
  • Sat nav/DVD player
  • Seperate CD player slot

Heres a link to one on ebay with 13,000 on the clock... 2004 plate

2004 NISSAN ALMERA 1.5 SVE on eBay, also, Nissan, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 30-Nov-07 18:05:47 GMT)

Just after a newer car... low mileage and will get me around in comfort.

Dont really care about any opinions about handling or how fast it is... i know how they handle and they're pretty god damn nippy too!!

Thanks guys.

The Almera is a reliable car, well equipped and nothing will go wrong with them.

My dad had two and could not fault them.

A bloke at work has an Almera, and although it isn't dynamically the best, it is ultra reliable, is built well, and has reasonable load space.

A flat cap and small dog are de rigeur if buying one though.

I used to sell these and thought that on the plus side, you got a huge amount of standard kit. On the down side, were terrible residuals and they couldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding. But if you just want steady, reasonably well built cars with a lot of toys and reasonable reliability, you could do an awful lot worse. Not really what you would call a ‘drivers’ car though.:D

Oh and there is a great trick in the Sat Nav that can recall an actual route you have driven.

A friend has had one for about 6 years. Now 100k+ miles. Nothing serious has gone wrong. Just make sure the price is right.

Well... thats all im after really is a reliable car with plenty of buttons for me to play with!! hehe.

Never really been one for fast cars or anything... just want a nice car that i can drive about in... what are they like on the motorway... never got chance to drive on a long run in my friends.

That feature on the sat-nav could be cool... always wanted to do that on my tomtom on me phone.

Thanks for the input guys!!

There was guy 'in the trade' on the radio the other week. In simple terms he said if you want a relable car, that will get your from A to B with out any fuss or issues and you weren't bothered about image, 'performance' or anything else that makes a car desirable then £ for £ the best value car out there was a 2-3 year old Almera.

Well... they certainly seem a good price!

£5,000... 2004 plate with only 13,000!

Can't really beat the price compared to the spec of the car.

Will have to see how money is after christmas.

Thanks again guys.

They are quite decent on the motorway up to about 75-80 bit strained after that.

Not sure what the going price for one of these 2nd hand is, but the price doesn’t seem too cheap, I would try and chip it down a bit. We were selling them for just over £12K in 2003, brand new, plus they don’t make them any more.

Won't be going any faster than 75 on the motorway anyway really...

That seems to be the going rate for these almeras that are on ebay... and all the SVE models are very similarly priced... but yes... would try and chip them down a bit!

Am i right in thinking that the early models of them had a failing cambelt problem that was addressed later by nissan (i.e. around 2004)?

Why are you asking this on a Briskoda site?

Please go and visit the Nissan nob site.

Talk to my hand buster! :finger:

A bit OTT isn't it?

Like all good engines its a chain not a belt - Car review: Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006)&

And like Lady-E, I think £5K is too much. Dull but utterly competent. It works for me

Hand ,,,, OTT, OK.

Nissan Almera?????? Now what's the name of this site ?????????????????

Well I better prepare my last ever posting as I look as though I am about to be ‘sin-binned’ Bye bye Brisky:rofl::rofl:

Well it's GENERAL CAR CHAT so anything car related goes here.

The Almera should be pretty reliable and the Sat Nav is the Xanavi 3-D Birdview DVD system and I can honestly say it is very good.

All the other toys on the SVE should keep you busy for a little while.

I've had a few as courtesy cars when the Primera was in for service/repairs. The only negative is the door mirrors tent to vibrate at higher motorway speeds >70-75 mph.

Apart from that, no major problems that I can think of.

Looks like I get a reprieve. Although does this mean i have to live in the no Skoda related parts of the forum???36_11_24.gif10_1_112.gif

You are only allowed to post in the NON SKODA parts of the site from now on.....:P

Dirty talk about NON Skoda marques in Skoda related parts of the site will lead to an immediate ban.......................probably:rofl:

In fact, I am going to recommend a 'dirty talk only' section where filth about BMW's, Mercedes, Toyota etc etc will be limited to that section only.

i test drove one while i was looking at cars the last time but i then decided to get a diesel and there wasn't very many nissan almera diesels about and i really was only interesting in finding a diesel from the VAG stable

They did an Almera 2.2 SXE with the 136BHP dCi engine which was fairly potent.

There was also a more weedy 112 BHP variant on offer too with respectable fuel economy

Don’t worry I will wear a tag on my ankle. Welshy, where are you? I’m all alone………………..

I liked the dCi engine, it was as economical as the 112bhp one, although it wasn’t too reliable as it was French:D.

IIRC the 2.2 used in the Primera and Almera was actually a Nissan derived engine. It was originally called the Di engine with 124BHP in the P12 Primera then upped to 136BHP and badged as dCi and used in the Almera, Primera and X-trail - A YD22 block IIRC. It might have been called dCi as Renault probably tinkered with it to squeeze more power out of it. They dropped the diesel from the Primera range completely before the model was phased out completely. Probably down to emissions.

The 2.2 Renault unit (G9T) produced 150BHP as standard at the time and was used in the Laguna and Espace.

The 1.5 and 2 litre dCi units in the Micra, Note and QASHQAI are Renault sourced nowadays.

When I was looking around to replace the Fabia I drove the Primera with the 2.2 dCI engine (allegedly) and it was horrendously underpowered compared to other cars with similar stats. Shame, as on paper the Primera was a sure fire winner but just didn't live up to that in the flesh and when driven :(

Never driven the Almera, but if you've driven it and you like it, you can't go far wrong :D

Interesting. I believed that the engine was the same as the X-trail lump and was Renault sourced. They even use the same dCi nomenclature.

Done a bit of trawling around ‘tinternet and can’t find any clear support for my claims:(

Oh hang on a mo

4Car says this of the 2001-2007 X-Trail…..

‘There were some glitches with the Renault-supplied diesel engine, although they should all have been sorted by now,’
