another pinking thought.........

Featured Replies

Despite all checks being ok, my 1.4 16v pinks. It is only just audible with the window down, and only does it between 2300-3000 revs on light load. Whilst doing a service at the weekend, I noticed that the air intake tempertaure flap was stuck in the 'hot' position. Took out the wax element, heated it up to prove that it wasn't working. On the assumption that such a small item would not be a VAG spare, I wedged the flap in the 'cold' position on the assumption that most of the time the engine will work slightly better with colder, denser air. On the post mainteneance tests and trials, there was virtually no pinking - certainly much better than it ever has been. There is an intake temperature check mentioned in elsawin, below 10 degrees the flap should be in the 'hot' position, above 23 degrees in the 'cold' position if anyone wants to check...........
