vRS - should I order?

Featured Replies

Good Evening All,

I went along for a look at the new Scout but ended up with a test drive in the diesel vRS last week and was very impressed. I am on the verge of placing an order - any feedback please, prob a silly question as you are all fans I am sure.

Warts an all please in your comments.

Many thanks, John.

Erm, I think you are going to get a bit of a biased opinion from a Skoda forum but in answer to your question, of course you should!;):D

Welcome btw

I agree, but get the proper one! (TFSI)

Before you opt for the vRS it might be prudent to test drive a non vRS model like the Scout, standard 4x4 or even an L&K so you have an idea of what the other cars in the range are like.

The new 1.8T(F)SI is supposed to be a cracking engine and is worth a try.

Whatever you opt for it should be a pretty solid car. Bear in mind the problematic cars you see on here are a very small minority as people are more likely to come here if they have a problem.

If you go for the vRS you will of course want the 170BHP Diesel :D

*Runs off and hides from the TFSI mob* :P

The Scout looks good on the road :)

:iagree: I saw one the other day - VERY nice.

Octavia Scout = half price Audi Allroad :D

They are both very capable cars but a little chalk and cheese.

Scout is medium performance but agile and purposeful workhorse, vRS is a mildy warm hatch.

vRS TDi, go for it!

I bought a Skoda on recommendation by a mate who frequents this site (Radders) I went for the TDI Scout after many test drives (see my first post) & of course think it's a cracker, but often wonder how nice it would be with that VRS lump under the bonnet.

All depends on what you really need it for?

Diesel power rules...:cool::thumbup:

If your likely to need 4x4 any time then the Scout has to be favourite. If not the vRS is a great car.

You could always get the Scout re-mapped eventually.

I agree with Captain Scarlet; both are good cars but it must boil down to what do you want out of it.

Why did you go to look at the Scout in the first place? What do you like about the vRS? For me? I don't need 4x4 and like good performance and best handling - I chose the vRS.

Now if Skoda were to do a vRS Quattro (pigs might fly) then that would be a different matter.

PS> Welcome to Briskoda.

Totally agree - 4 x more versions of a 4x4 with Haldex would be a good move for Skoda:

2.0 tfsi - Riding on VRS suspension

2.0 TDI (170) - " "

2.0 tfsi - Riding on standard 4x4 suspension

2.0 TDI (170) - " "

Basically the VRS's with haldex system - but with Scout/L&K standard kit!

These would sell like hotcakes.

How hard can it be - they have all the hardware available & already tested.

And stomp all over Audi and VW's toes?, I don't think so do you!!!

They're all the same bl00dy crowd - sales are sales after all aren't they!

Oh & besides - most Audi drivers out there won't touch a Skoda so they wouldn't care less, let them carry on with there bare mimimum options :-)

I did! Had an A4 cab and a TT before my vRS!

And the Skoda is a damn sight better screwed together than either!

I've got a 2.0 diesel elegance with full leather, magnificent, you don't need the vrs or scout honest.

I stand corrected..

I find the vRS practicality perfect for my needs, both in work and out.

But i was shopping for one when i loked, so am a bit biased :D

I currently own 2 Octavia's. A petrol and a diesel. Although I haven't driven the 2.0tfsi i'm sure it is a great engine. The diesel is heavier and feels easier to drive gently than the 1.8t petrol engine (that I also have!!). However, when you put your foot down, the torque kicks in and it REALLY goes. And, I currently get around 510 miles out of a tank of diesel and thats with only 3000 miles on the clock so it should improve. The 1.8t petrol used to do around 300 per tank! The petrol sounds better and feels more "thrashy" (if that makes sense). But for everyday use, i choose the diesel everytime. Don't forget you have to get the vRS to get the special injectors (technical term) and therefore 170bhp and more torque. No other Skoda engine has this, so won't perform in the same way  I think!! Im sure that someone will correct me on this bit if I am wrong.

Plus IMHO the vRS looks better than any of the others! Take the plunge and order one, you won't be dissapointed! Honest!
