Upgrading from 1.9SDI to 1.9TDI VRS

Featured Replies

My daughter added me to her first insurance - and the premium dropped a lot, I would need to drive the car when servicing/repairing it so it was legit. Three years on she has changed insurers and can not afford to add me!

highest insurance I ever paid was when I bought a fiat uno turbo at 20 years old... £1,700 a year! when I turner 21 it dropped to £700... now I'm paying £295 :)

I've had the car for 24 hours now and let's just say I'm delighted..

The first, second and third times I overtook something you simply could not wipe the smile off my face.... and in fact the car is still having that effect now..

Very pleased with how tight and smooth everything feels (33,000 miles on the clock)..

I managed to do 300 miles yesterday and didn't get bored :D

Congratulations.

Can't wait till I make the same switch in a couple of years.

And what's this overtaking you talk of?

Something SDI owners are not familiar with!

The SDI was ok to overtake things so long as you could use 4th gear and planned the manouvre beforehand (IE dropped back from the car and started accelerating 5 or 6 seconds before the last car coming in the opposite direction has passed)

It was quite quick at overtaking if you did that!

I'm 18. "A little young" for such a car, is probably what you're all thinking.. but there we go! I can safely say I don't plan on even coming close to be another "young VRS driving idiot", the money I'm paying for the car and insurance is far too much to just chuck away.

Besides, even if I go a little briskly it'll be a fresh change from the SDI. 0-60 in 18 seconds.. speedy!

Never to young! I bought my VRS for my 21st!

You will remap it within 2months garrenteed!:D

I got a very good deal with privilage, but im guessing you have rung round the houses.

Is it possible to get on a parents policy?

Your going to love the VRS u really will! Let us no how you get on.

Glad your enjoying your new motor. Put some pics up, when she's clean.

I'm 19 and have a Silver Fabia vRS. All I can say is its simply a sublime experience - I love the car to bits and she is so fun to drive. I am insured with Admiral and I have declared my remap so its abit steep but best to be safe then sorry.

After appricating that the old girl had some grunt and having met up with ScoopyChris I decided to take some advanced motoring lessons. I'd highly recommend them - especially for young drivers.

Sadly she is in the shop at the moment awaiting repair because I think the turbo has blown up...or something far more serious. Hopefully I'l find out tomorrow. :(

at 21 i was insuring a modified mk3 ibiza cupra 20vt for £1200 fully comp, and a ninja 636 for £1400 fully comp. £2600 on insurance per year :(

It's so so nice to have a car that you can wait patiently in, in the knowledge that as soon as you have a bit of clear, straight road you can get past the person holding you up.

For that reason I fully believe that having a more powerful car can make you a more sensible, patient driver. I know for a fact that in my SDI I used to take any chance I could to overtake, because I knew that chances were limited. In the VRS I can wait until it's as safe as possible because I know I have the power to pass quickly...

Delighted, by the way - absolutely taken away with how good a car Skoda have managed to come up with (or Volkswagen, depending on which way you look at it :D))

I do like the Fabia in red. I test drove a newer, less mileage red one but it was waaay out of my price range :(

Looks like a very cleam motor mate, enjoy it

yep i think the red is the second best colour, after race blue naturally;)

Race blue is definitely the way to go!

just going back to the post about added named drivers to your insurance, my insurance advised me to do this even though they knew the other drivers would rarely drive the car!....went with somebody in the end when renewal was due, they advised me to do this aswel when i said... 'how much?... you having a turkish?'....they said it was the best way to get your insurance down!!!

k:)

Just a couple of comparisons between the two regarding motorway behaviour.

I don't know if it has something to do with the width of the tyres, but in my previous car, the 1.9SDI classic, you always used to be able to feel the wind off lorries pushing you away from them. In the VRS, when you go past a lorry on the motorway you don't feel a thing.

The car feels so much more stable and safe on the motorway...

This makes little sense to me considering they are really exactly the same car... :D
